routsounmanman doing a great job at being optimistic over his mad brave bet
Anyway, that's a nice ad! Love the little one biting the guys pants.

I wonder why they are giving so much advertising to the console version.
Sure it'll probably sell better then the PS2 versions but by how much are they expecting?

Well, the highest selling version of a PS2 Monster Hunter has sold 630,000. MH3 actually has a slim chance of outselling that in a week (MH3's 'week' will only be two days.) For a full week, 7 days, it has a high chance of outselling MH2's lifetime total.
As to what they are expecting, I'd say maybe 1.25m. The first shipment is 1m, so if MH3 is successful enough, the demand may warrant a second.
The advertising is just well...........if they want their title to be in the people's mindset as a big deal, they have to "fake it till they make it". and make MH3 look like the 2nd coming.
Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. " thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."
I don't get why everyone snobs the console versions of MH. MH is not popular due to the platform or being portable (sure it pushes things a little). It's like saying a full fledged Pokemon game for a Nintendo console won't sell much...

You kind of just proved your detractors right with your own post. How much have the console Pokemon games sold compared to the handheld iterations? It's a similar thing with Monster Hunter. Only 2 Wii games have outsold Monster Hunter Freedom Portable 2nd G in Japan, and I doubt Monster Hunter 3 will be one of them. It will definitely outsell the first, and has a good chance at the second, however.

There have been a lot of spinoffs and remakes on the handhelds, and most of them sold like candy. Point is, they're not going to reach a similar audience size with a transition to another demographic and another console.

You actually compare Pokemon Stadium-like Pokemon games to main series? To make my point, DQ became a huge series on the consoles, yet it had no problem flowing to the DS. When your game cater to such a "hardcore" demographic, the fans will follow no matter what. That's the logic behind my obsession with MH3 selling big time.

And you're comparing Dragon Quest to Monster Hunter? I am laughing. Part of the reason Dragon Quest has done so well on the DS is because the DS holds a large audience and a large share of demographics that other consoles have held. It's userbase pulls millions of people from the SNES, Gameboy, PS2, and other popular consoles. The Wii has a userbase in Japan that is more than 4 million less than the PSP.
We could argue all day about this, but if you're sticking with the ridiculous expecations I've seen you post, no debate is needed.

I would say either because they are a little nervous about recent game sales on the Wii and are trying to do everything to ensure a return on their investment or it could be that Nintendo is helping them out as they obviously have a keen interest in seeing this game succeed in Japan.
