There's too much clutter on the front page, people are easily distracted from registering. The first thing that comes to mind will probably be, "What the hell do I do now? This rainbow of happiness is blowing my mind!"

People probably don't know what to do or how to find things on here. I too am confused after all these years I've been here. The 2.0 bomb might be scaring people. The simplicity of the old site is gone.

yes, the ratio has always been about the same. It varies from hour to hour too. Right now it is at 1:6.2 (users:guests). which looks a lot better than 1:12

Lots of people seem to lurk for extended periods of time before becoming an active member of the site. I know I was a lurker for over a year before I joined the forums.
