Another point in that article addressed the RRoD. I'm really curious on this because I haven't experienced it personally so I'll put it out here for others to provide feedback....
If an Xbox 360 is so similar to a computer system by software and hardward, then please explain something to me.
My GameCube could be left on for days and have no problems playing when I'd come back to it and unpause the game that had been paused that whole time. The same is true for my Wii (which I left on about a week, paused, because I couldn't get back to a game and I didn't want to have to start the whole level over again when I was almost done). I went back to the Wii, unpaused, and picked up where I left off (just remembered it was the game Manhunt 2). I know I've left my N64 on for times and even my PS2 slim before. My OSX computer are never turned off. My office XP PC is never turned off. Why then can't the PS360s not be left on in similar fashion? Why do those burn out? Shouldn't there have been energy saving features?
There may be features to protect it but I'm curious about the problems. Again, my friend left his PS3 on overnight and had to send it in for service for overheating. My relative had his 360 exchanged for overheating. I don't understand why these consoles can't be more resilient or reliable when powered on and not in use. No bashing, just sincere curiosity on my part.

I have left my 60 GB PS3 on in a closed cabinet while i was at a class all day before and absolutely nothing happened to it. That fan was running so fast and when i opened the doors the heat came out it was insane. And my PS3 works perfectly to this day.

Yeah, I've heard some of it. It's better than their previous attempt to be more "modern" but I still don't really know what to make of it.

Without MS, how awful and expensive would the PS3 be this gen? Think about it.

it would be 399$ you know there is nintendo.

excatly.. people forget that nintendo kicked Sonys butt this gen... M$ had very little to do with it but it did help by stealing games even tho it did not damage sony as much as the wanted to. Sony also killed their own self. (600 price tag was insane but i still bought it day one and am very happy because i have BC.)

Theres very little chance that they would have cut the price in the first year of release in Pal and a little over the first year in NTSC if the Xbox 360 didn't exist or was irrelevant. They paid on their bottom line, not through their hardware sales. Hell the PS3 would have looked a lot cheaper had there not been a cheaper alternative, get me?

Without MS and their console I see two possible futures...

1. Online game play would never have seen the light of day for possiblities that LIVE has brought to gaming.  It may have existed for PC gamers before but there would be no new benchmark to compare online gaming.  It would have been a snail pace to get to the point that it's at now.  (I still think it should be free to owners of 360 though   ).

2. Without MS's console, Sony would not have been PUSHING the limits of technology because Nintendo wasn't pushing the limits.  Sony would have focused on games more I think and left the home entertainment concept with their home electronics division.  I think they would have stayed the dominant force in consoles but the system would have been similar to what Nintendo's system is now.  The specs would have been closer and the online functionality would have been very basic.  If MS wasn't in gaming, I don't think there would have been a $600 system to talk about.  PS3 original would have been more like a PS3 slim.

Just my guess at where sony would have been without a MS console.

Consoles owned: NES, N64, PS1, GC, PS2, Wii.

Currently playing...

Not to bash the op's opinion, but I find it amusing that someone will balk at

exactly what i was thinking .

without Microsoft there would not have been very many advancement's toward Online as fast as it has since Microsoft came to the table. It so happen's the people in charge at Sony and Nintendo did not put much investment as fast as Microsoft had done at the time. Online was viewed as not the priority now this was Opinion's by some who worked in the game industry who shall we say were looking at it from outside looking in based on their observation.

I in my opinion think it's pretty spot on.

I think its more to do with the way Asia has done their electronic game's industry compared to the way the US or Europe has done their electronic game's industry.

for all of the companies that are in the Computer game industry and their faults, thay have all brought something quite worthwhile to the table.

Proud psOne/2/3/p owner.  I survived Aplcalyps3 and all I got was this lousy Signature.

Not to bash the op's opinion, but I find it amusing that someone will balk at <$4 per month for a great service, but won't complain about the fact that the Wii has stayed at its original price of $250. How Wii ruined fun for everybody by gouging users who buy the base unit.

I'll admit that I've seen far worse rebuttals, but yours kinda stinks too...
