By the end of next year.

Although personally, i think the DS/DSlite + DSi should be counted seperately.

I don't think so, I know many people who already own a DS is buying an DSi, but, the same happened with PS2 and PS2 Slim. DSi isn't a new console, is just and hardware upgrade.

Im not talking about just because its a re-model.

I mean because DSi has/will have DSi exclusives what cant be played on DS/DSlite.

As did GameBoy Color, yet those hardware sales are included with the original GameBoy sales.

I think end of next year is as good a guess as any, on topic.

Which they shouldnt have been, because Gameboy owners couldnt play all the games then released for the system.

The way i see it, if a platform has its own exclusive games... it is a seperate platform.

Even Wikipedia has DSi sales seperate.

Wikipedia has overall DS sales including DS Lite and DSi sales as a total of 100 million units as of March 6th, 2009.

I can understand where you're coming from, but the total will be the original, Lite and DSi combined. They all use the same base technology.

If you go to the DSi page, if i remember correctly... they have unique sales.

Yes they do, and like I said, the DS wikipedia page counts DSi sales as part of that total, so that can't be taken as solid proof that DSi sales should be counted seperately.

How do Nintendo count them? How do different tracking firms count them?

Some tracking firms ive seen track DSi seperate, although i cant remember them all. Il try find some.
Not sure about most though.

The PS2 Slim is not the PS2, hence the PS2 never sold 120 million units.

The Slim PS2 didn't have Slim PS2 exclusives. And PS2 is actually at ~135m + sales.

@Asriel.

I just did a quick check on the sales forum and i got Media Create who do them seperately, and it appears from this thread that GfK also count them seperate.

I saw similar things in 2006 when the DS Lite was launched, not long after that it was counted as 'DS' sales again, that's what I'm expecting to happen with DSi.

Either way, it looks like DSi will be counted as DS sales, with that being the case, the end of next year is the time to watch.

If it happens it will be big for Nintendo, and sad for Sony. I think it will happen 2012.

If so all the 7(?) different PS3 models should be counted separately.

At OP.

Xmas 2010 and it surpasses PS2.
