Probably never as the time is running out for Microsoft.
Japan FF XIII release is going to move serious amount of consoles , same with incoming GT5 release and invitable slim and price cuts.

IMO it's all about what price the slim launches. Something tells me they'll go for $400 so they can finally make some profit.

They won't decide it but the temporary hardware boost from GT5 and FF13 can reduce x360 lead by something like 500k.

If they do that it will be a big boost for like... 3 months. The Slim would be $400 and the fat PS3s would probably drop to $300.

After the holiday season the Slim would probably drop to $350 for all the big games in Q1 + 2 2010, still giving Sony a tidy profit.

Once holiday season 2010 comes, probably they would lower the price to $300.

And yes, it would be epic if Sony did that.

the wii is already tracking above 10mil over the xbox360 and ps3, so even thought I didn't read the OP and since am training to become a wii fanboy I decide to bring that up

I wager mid November with no qualitative changes within the dynamic, and I wager late October if there are, because I take Microsoft at their word. Not prone to bullshit are they. There not going to let Sony seize, and own a pricing advantage. They will probably respond in kind, and may actually do it preemptively to make it look like Sony is responding.

Show me a 360 for $150, and I will show you a console that will start to literally fly off shelves. That would be far more effective then a $300 PS3 no matter how slim it is.

Microsoft is likely to fight tooth and nail for victory over the holiday season. Could mean 150 dollar Arcade, could mean a price drop on one of the more expensive models as well. Subsiding the price of the consoles with XBL means they can do wonders with the price.
