Forums - Nintendo - Is the Wii's price finally effecting sales?

It's no secret that the Wii is down massively YoY for the past couple of months.

It's stayed at $250 since launch which, if i'm not mistaken, is a record for longest time without a price cut.

Is the $250 price point finally takign it's toll on Wii sales? Or is it because there aren't enough heavy hitting games? Will a $50 price cut bring the Wii within range of hitting 50% market share?

What do you guys think.

still outselling both the 360 and PS3, the industry as a whole is down YOY, blame the recession

I don't think it's the price. I think it's a combination of the world feeling the hurt financially (I understand a price cut would help this out a bit, but is not the real answer), a saturation point starting to take hold on the evergreen titles, and the DSi.

IMO they should drop the price 50$ and include WSR and WM+,Wii system hardware is cheap enough to make they would still be printing money.
The games are there but when most consumers see a 360 for less than a Wii...yeah Wii needs to change things up plus as an extra bonus bring the black wii to the west.

Recession. 360 is cheaper. Lack of good games.

Ryudo - Including WSR now would be pretty stupid since it'll sell another 10-15 million units all own its own pretty easily over the next few years. A simple price cut would be better. Of course it's not necessarily the price causing them issues. There haven't been many big games lately and all gaming is down yoy. Maybe cutting is the answer, maybe it's not. I do think, though, that a price cut in time for this holiday season will help them recapture some of the heat they had in years past.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

I don't think it would hurt to drop the price $50.00.

Recession, and no blockbusters so far.

Wait and see the effect Wii Sports Resort has in America and Others, and the effect of Monster Hunter 3/black Wii in Japan. If neither of those do anything significant or sustained, then Nintendo may begin to consider price drops. Or they might just wait for Mario Brothers Wii and Wii Fit Plus and see what effect they have, before they cut prices. Or they might throw out the black Wii in Europe and America.
They'll want to hit their shipment targets for the financial year, and should do with their big first party titles and a possible price cut.

Yeah maybe but still also should bring out the black to the west. New colours ALWAYS help sales.

And to people who claim it lacks games....wake up it has plenty of quality games and yes many are 3rd party and are not party games or fitness junk.

The price has always influenced demand in one way or another.
