Forums - Sony - Sony is the only company I am 100% sure will make a next gen console

I don't see why people are derailing his topic.

how exactly is posting your thoughts on a topic derailing it? Just because people think it makes absolutely no sense and is almost a joke of a post does not mean they are derailing a topic.

This post makes absolutely no sense, and is almost a joke of a topic. I can't begin to explain why it is so incredibly wrong. I will say the OP needs to seriously look at how businesses work, and read up on what blue ocean strategy really is.

Whatever, it deserves as much facepalms as the "Sony may drop out of console business" threads.

Because posting facepalm picture's isn't derailing a topic?

There's no use for that, people mock his opinion, that's dumb. If you have something stupid to post, just don't post at all.

Hardly. While initially I agreed with this, there are now many outside factors involved. Sony as a whole is suffering right now. if the other two console makers were to force a next gen race to start in a year or two I highly doubt Sony would follow suit. Of course if this gen drags out like everyone says they want it to the next Playstation is a guaranteed thing barring anything unfortunate happening to Sony as a whole.

You can also point out where he is flat out wrong, and where he is completely misinterpreting facts or ignoring them. You could refute the entire thing as it is based on fairly faulty logic used in a lot of places.

Isn't microsoft worth more than 125 bil?

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

The TC makes a lot of valid points for Sony and in regards to his points for Nintendo I would wholely agree with had he made them 3 years ago. However, with Nintendo's 1st party developments flourishing and them selling all hardware at a profit, there is really no reason for them to drop out of the hardware race. The only reason I would ever have thought that Nintendo would give up would be in the event that next-generation hardware becomes simply too expensive to create and sell at a mass-market price for Nintendo, however, they have effectively proven to me this generation that their software and marketing efforts are so effective and compelling that they could release a console with hardware capabilities generations below the competition and still compete.

@Bolded- I Agree 100% well said.

@Red Bolded- I highly doubt that for MS, and Nintendo for many reasons, both of which are very much established this gen so there'd be no point in making new consoles in only a year or 2, it'd be outright foolish.

@Blue Bolded-  What do you mean by that one exactly?

___

@Smashed- What you say is true, but you can only go so far as far as making no sense goes, theres reality and theres fantasy, and with an opening like that to a thread it makes it kinda hard to take it as is and try to discuss it.

According to wikipedia:

Microsoft total assets: $72.793 billion USD (2008)
Sony total assets: $230.5 billion USD (2009)

We are in a rough economic period, and Sony is feeling it hard. A couple major disasters could cripple the company. I do not think it is likely to happen, but they are not currently in a good position to handly it if something did happen.

I also agree that it is highly unlikely that anyone would force a generation change right now. It would cause more harm than good for them and leave the market open for a new machine to steal the lime light as it were. I don't expect a console generation change for quite sometime, and I expect Sony will be a part of it. This was just a fantasy "What if" that could be used by Microsoft and Nintendo to try and force Sony out.
