Forums - Gaming - Resident Evil Producer: A reboot is in order for the series

I have cut out the beginning of the Article due to having Spoilers from RE5 (original article below); here is the main part

Producer Jun Takeuchi has previously stated that a reboot is in order for the series, following the release of The Darkside Chronicles. The issue was pressed at the SDCC panel, where Takeuchi was asked of this and who would be in charge of the next game.

"[Kawata and I] are playing blackjack to see who has the responsibility of next episode of series," he told those attending. IGN says this suggests it will indeed be a major change, one which no one wants to gamble on.

"It doesn't appear either of us is going to be in charge," he continues, which seems to allude to a new producer altogether. "I can't say much at this time," he adds.

Of course, the term "reboot" can take on different forms in fiction. Sometimes it means that everything which came before is discarded, and they begin all over again. This is sometimes done to retell a story (such as in Star Fox 64, Bionic Commando Rearmed, and the recent Prince of Persia), while other times, a new, separate continuity is born (see any number of TransFormers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, etc. series).

DC Comics has become particularly infamous for their periodic reboots, in which they discard some previous events, keep others, and try to pick and choose what belongs in an effort to "streamline" stories for future readers.

Other times, past events are simply ignored or not brought up as newer tales continue the storyline in what is sometimes referred to as a "soft reboot." This is usually done in an effort to sate longer-running fans of a series while making it easier for new potential fans to jump in without feeling overburdened by continuity.

Exactly what Capcom has in mind for a Resident Evil "reboot" remains unclear for now, but it also opens up the question of where the upcoming PSP Resident Evil title falls into all of this.

We'll keep you posted as any new details emerge.

Interesting, I'm curious to know how they will reboot the game, and if they will use new characters or not/have a completely different storyline.

Reboot = Make it a Survival Horror game, i think it would really suit Resident Evil.

I really hope so too, and I also hope they keep the main characters, even if they do change the story

I don't know about that again with surivial horror. Actionshooting is in, as they say. Isn't that the reason they made RE5 that way. It started already with RE4. They would remake RE in the 'now' age. And that appears to be mainly actionshooting.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

Will RE be a survival horror game again? If no, I will skip the next game.

Yes, it is... RE5 is a great action game, but a 'poor' Resident Evil title...forced co-op in single player mode, the majority of the game under sunlight, etc...ruined the atmosphere of survival horror.

I hope this means they return to it's roots.

let it not be a RE5 steriod characters reboot.

My prediction:

There will be a new male character and he will be just as buff as the grizzly bear known as Chris Redfield.
