Forums - Gaming - Am I the only one who thinks $400 is still expensive?

lol...point is that $400 price point is not what the mainstream wants as you can see with the Wii against the 360. They want a $100 to $200 price range and neither Sony or Microsoft is doing that.

But Microsoft is heading in the right direction.

Nice plug fanboy. Microsoft is moving in the right direction with a system only fifty dollars cheaper than the competition, but, they also have a systme fifty bucks more expensive than sony. That's right direction right? WRONG! They are in the same boat that we are in. The prices for the systems (with this forty gig ps3) are neck and neck. You can't try to sit here and say the price for the PS3 isn't "Mainstream" or is too pricey when the 360 is only within fifty bucks of the PS3 (or fifty bucks more for the elite gamers). The 360 isn't mainstream either then. So the Wii isn't mainstream cuz it's 250, 50 more than YOUR "mainstream" price. Think b4 u post. Thank you.

How is their system only 50$ cheaper. Last time I checked a pro was $349 and a 60gb PS3 was $499.

Oh I see, you are talking about the new 40gb model announced for Europe. Uhh when did they announce pricing for this new 40gb PS3 in *US dollars*. Are you comparing US dollars to Euros? How does the new system put them neck and neck?

You do know that 399 Euros is NOT the same as 399 USD right? 399 Euros is about $560. Oh wait you probably dont know that.

By the way $250 is alot closer to "mainstream" price than either of the other 2 consoles. Its been said that the sweet spot for a video game console is about $200, so yah it might still be over but its within range, unlike $499 which is double.

Maybe you should think before YOU post. Fanboy.

Edit - The U.S 40gb model isnt official until Sony announces it. Plus if/when it does dont think the competition will sit still.

PS360 ftw!

Currently playing..........

Gears of War 2, GTA IV Lost and Damned, Little Big Planet (Yes I said I had no interest but my girl wanted to try it and we did and now Im hooked )

Wii - $249.99

360 Premium (the Core is discontinued) - $349.99

360 Halo 3 Premium - $399.99

360 Elite - $449.99

PS3 40Gb (soon to be released) - $399.99

PS3 60Gb - $499.99

The Wii price is much more mainstream that either the 360 or PS3, but the PS3 (once the new 40Gb model is released), will be priced similarly to the 360.  The new 40Gb model will be exactly $50 cheaper than the Elite and $50 more expensive than the Premium.  So it will be directly fighting with the 360.

Prediction (June 12th 2017)

Permanent pricedrop for both PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in October.

PS4 Slim $249 (October 2017)

PS4 Pro $349 (October 2017)

Nice plug fanboy.

The guy with the playstation avatar calls someone else a fanboy.  Irony.

By and large, consoles are too expensive.  It makes it very hard for a non-video gamer to get into the industry IMO.

@ Fried
I'm not converting Euros to US dollars, there is another post that says it is coming to the america's at the expected retail price of four hundred. I am not a fanboy as you can see on my sig, I have a XBOX Live account and am an avid player of many XBOX 360 games (I didn't buy one my bro did but I play it), I enjoy 360 as well as my PSP and hope to enjoy my 40 gig PS3.

@davy
Thank you

@ Words of wisdom, refer to my response to fried as to why I am not a Sony Fanboy.

Thank you.

^^^^ Also Link to the "rumored" low-spec PS3 version hitting the states (which it will) which further solidifies my argument against W29 about the "mainstream" prices of the 360 being fifty dollars mor (or less) expensive than the PS3.

Point 1:  You can be a fanboy and own more than one system.

Point 2:  I adblocked your entire signature over a week ago I think.

??? Care to elaborate? Seriously they totally suck regards pricing policy. Are you really satisfied with former price drop? They waited with new prices extremely long. They can't lower the price because of system's failure rate. The hardware is obviously cheaper than PS3 to made (lack of wifi, hdmi 1.3, blu-ray etc.) but all money they pump into a warranty policy hold them back from more resolved price drop. The truth is both Sony and Microsoft are in red right now. Microsoft has great online community and they make a lot money on this part of the business alone. Add cash from all millionsellers. Still not enough to break even. It really shows how difficult for hardware producers this gen is. There won't be another "next gen" anytime soon. Both Sony and Microsoft need years to start make any profit. The good news about this price war is we will be able to buy all systems and enjoy all games.

Yes, the Core is discontinued as it's being replaced by the Arcade, which is the same price $279.99, but comes with HDMI, a 256MB memory card, and the 5 XBLA games. :)

OT: $400 is too much for a gimped PS3. If they reduced the price of the current (full-featured in the USA) 60gb ver. to $400 then that would be an ok value. At least, when there are some good games for it.

starcraft: "I and every PS3 fanboy alive are waiting for Versus more than FFXIII.
Me since the games were revealed, the fanboys since E3."

Skeeuk: "playstation 3 is the ultimate in gaming acceleration"

$399 isn't mainstream, get over it.

Just because it has a ton of coll features doesn't make it cost less. A person who only has $300 still can't buy it because it is a Blu-Ray player.

Wii isn't mainstream, but a price drop when PS3 releases all of its AAA games (yes, nintendo will drop its price in Q1 2008) will certainly help.

Gimped? It offers more than elite.
