There hasn't been a truly fantastic 3-D Castlevania so I'm going to reserve judgment for now.

The same was true for Street Fighter games, until now that is. Miracles do happen!

Huh? There are no good 3D Street Fighter games either. You do realize we're talking about the game's perspective and not 2D sprites vs. 3D models, right?

Uhm, Street Fighter 4 has a 3D perspective, it has depth like the Tekken and Soul Calibur titles. Right? Or what does it take to be called a 3D game?

No, it doesn't.  You can't sidestep in Street Fighter 4.  All combat takes place on a 2-D plane.

Kojima is over-seeing this castlevania right? then it should at-least have a good story :P

It looks good, but there were too many cutscenes, rather than gameplay footage to see much. I keep having horrible flashbacks to Castlevania on the Nintendo 64.

:O

God, I hope it's a masterpiece.

So much wrong in this thread...

1. Street Fighter 4 is not 3D. Its 2D gameplay with 3D models.
2. SOTN2??? WHAT!??!?!?!
3. Mercury steam is involved with this game. My hunch is that Kojima is handling cinematics and story elements since that is what he does best and Mercury steam is making the actual game. And their games have SUCKED thus far. So I am keeping fingers crossed...but expect the worst.

1. My thoughts exactly.

2. I had the same reaction. It seems if it's real it might be tarnishing the good name of SOTN by not keeping it in 2D.

3. Don't be so harsh on Mercury Steam. So far they've managed to make the worst American McGee title and the worst title with Clive Barker's name attached. Luckily for them, there have already been some god awful 3D Castlevanias, so we may very well see the first project from them that is merely bad or god awful but not necessarily the worst ever in a particular franchise or license. Maybe it can fall comfortably in that void between Curse of Darkness and Castlevania 64.

I hope so. I enjoyed the atmosphere of Castlevania 64 and the gameplay mechanics in Lament of Innocence were very functional. The series has the potential to be good in 3-D; it just needs focus, on platforming or action or something of the sort.

Kojima's ability to make gameplay work might be what the game needs.

But I hop he doesn't come within ten feet of the script.

Funny, I would say the complete opposite of this. Let Kojima write the script, but please let it play dozens of times better than MGS4. (Yes, I'm aware its a different type of game)

Yeah, that's the opposite. I hate his writing, but he crafts gameplay like a master. The progression of the MGS series is measured in its gameplay, not in its narrative. The way every game plays is elegant - MGS4 might be weak but that's only because there is too much crap in it.

Yeah...im with Khuutra. Kojima has always had great gameplay ideas. I've not been blown away more by any game more than MGS1 or MGS3.

His scripts are a hit and miss...but his gamplay is almost always top notch.
Im afraid that he is doing to production and script however. I mean, why would media molecule be involved. As Onyx said above, they are not really champions of win...

Two Words

Hideo Kojima

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

It looks like the opinions here are very hit or miss on it being good.
