Kinda makes sense since these days most companies are barely recouping their massive development budgets by software sales alone, and the montly fees from MMOs are like gifts that keep on giving.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Except that it is revenue, not profit.

Console games seem to be selling more and more, AND they have a higher price on average than last generation too... so revenue for console games (home and handheld) is increasing despite their lost profits.

MMO revenue as a percentage of PC games is probably huge, but even so there are other PC games being bought that contribute to game revenue too, so PC game revenue in total is probably over half of all game revenue. And that is the USA too, where PC gaming is probably less popular (by percentage) than most other countries of the world.

So this is very impressive.

(Actually wasn't there something at the end of the fiscal year, or possibly before that, about PC game revenue being ~$10 billion, compared to video game revenue (all consoles) at ~$10.4 billion)

The PC Game Revenue Worldwide in 2008 was $12.7 Billions. I'm sure Console Game Revenue is above that, but their problem is that PC Games are much more recession-proof than Console Games - PC games are much cheaper, and the MMO and Casual markets will be unaffected by the recession and will continue to grow handsomely. By the end of the year I think we can expect the PC gaming revenue to come closer, or atleast have a bigger growth rate than the Console Industry.

I love the quote about how PC gaming is recession proof, unlike console games. Care to share any more pearls of wisdom backed by literally no empirical evidence?

Do you have any figures to show that MMO and casual gaming revenue on the PC has tanked?

Do we even have any figures that could make for a viable argument on either side? I was not staking a claim to MMO revenue. I was, however, questioning his conclusion which was not based on any factual information, but his opinion.

That seems rather high.

Oh... I must have mistaken some facts somewhere then... I thought those ~10billion figures were USA only.
