8000

that is the (rounded) number of consoles that the xbox 360 is selling more than the ps3.

That isn't monumentally huge.  If sony does something really big with their hardware, Like maybe reduce the price of the playstation 3 to 279 or 300 dollars, you would probably see a huge sale spike for the PS3 would probably sell more than the xbox 360 ( I would guess by a margin a little bit higher than the number at the top of this page.)

If the ps3 has a price drop not equivalent to the low price of the 360, it will still sell due to the fact that the ps3 sold better than the 360 at one point when it actually had a higher price.

Considering the economy isn't as bad as it was 6 months ago, the recession should not be as much of an issue as it was.
As for the 360, I think if they can do more bundles than they can probably maintain their sales that way.

My name is blubeard because rosie has a blue beard. Just not on her chest.

You mean that's the number 360 has sold more LTD than PS3? Weekly sales there's only a little between them, as the 360 price cut impact cools down.

As for PS3 being able to make that up - well, it's not impossible, but the issue isn't the 360, it's the Wii. The data's always shown that the baseline demand for the PS3 is higher at an equivalent price (which is why MS will always have to keep 360 below PS3 to remain ahead) - but with the Wii still selling so well it might place a ceiling on how much PS3 can increase sales even with price cuts.

Still, I guess if Sony really do drop the price in time for the Holidays we'll know for sure.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Sony has to cut their price before Christmas, or they're shooting themselves in the foot and mouth.... Again.

Its hard to predict what effect a PS3 pricecut will have at this point, or, say, right before the holidays. But it would certainly have an effect, no doubt about that.
In the end, the 360 and PS3 will be very close this gen and I think it might be a photo finish (which is amazing for MS and not so much so for Sony who have been on top for well over a decade before).

If Sony doesn't cut their price then they better hope Final Fantasy 13 moves a hell of a lot of consoles in Japan. I'm talking 500,000+ consoles because that will be what they'll need to keep even remotely close to the Xbox 360.

PS3 needs a 100 euros/ us dollars drop price to reverse actual situation. In japan 360 is going down and when a price cut comes, along with FFXIII and GT5, microsoft console will be dead. In Europe the batlle is real close; a price cut will put ps3 up maybe 10000 per week. In USA even if ps3 doesn´t go to number 2 on weekly sales, the battle wiil be very balanced. So the 8000 xbox360 weekly lead can go to a 15000-20000 ps3 lead.

It's going to take a lot for the PS3 to make up ground.

Ms should really get FF XIII for 360 in Japan.

I don't think it would make much of a difference Aion. They would be best to make a move to strengthen their hold in NA. Pehaps by getting a ps3 exclusive port there.

MS should stop producing xbox literally.
