It's not the religions fault at all, all Christianity teaches is its version of morality at the end of the day. But it is more about the politics that comes with it. Religion seems to hold a lot of political power for some reason in the USA, it can swing whole elections. If that happened in the UK their would be a massive outrage. You often find USA Christians are heavily conservative and this seems to go hand in hand with the religion. Honestly, I can't remember the last Republican I spoke to who wasn't a Christian and so they seem to intertwine conservative beliefs with Christian ones.

And so opposing something as obviously beneficial as a national healthcare system is something that is heavily 'co-incidental' with Christianity, not because it is Christian but because it is conservative. Try and find me a conservative Christian who also doesn't oppose gay marriage or abortion. Opposing national healthcare is just one policy amongst thousands of policies that US Christians seem to hold due to the inherent conservatism.

What I'm trying to say is that where you find Christianity in the USA you will also find conservative values. It's all a messy mix of religion and politics lol.

that sounds like pretty good anylasis to me.

I will say that there is a HUGE difference in social conservatives and fiscal conservatives. Most squabbles in the Republican party deal with this issue.

I see two types of conservatives in the USA. The secular libertarian who's primary concern is financial conservatism and think freely on social issues (Therealmafoo) and the Christian republican who has a strict opinion on social issues, and these social beliefs effects their financial opinions too (Halogamer). To me, as a foreign observer, it seems that 90% of US conservativesfit more or less into one of these two groups.

They are two very different groups, with one being dominant on financial issues and the other on social issues, but the one I was reffering to was the latter.
