Forums - Nintendo - Capcom: "How many Nintendo games got online co-op?"

If people want online Coop games, they probably got a 360, not a Wii anyway. Wii buyers are more likely to want active games in the same room as a friend.

Is this another situation where it's appropriate to say "If you wanted "feature X or game X", you should have bought "console Y" " ?

There has been a continuous trend of these kinds of things for the Wii, and yet everyone still complains about it. You see how things are going, why don't you change your perspective? You think that since the Wii is selling the highest, 3rd parties will just turn around and start to "innovate" for the Wii (only to complain about it when it doesn't happen).

That's like hoping the PS3 will come out of 3rd place (only to complain when we see the next week's sales numbers having the PS3 still in 3rd for that week). I noticed the trend, and saw that over the course of THREE years (plenty of time to realize how things are going in the video game industry), nothing was going to change, so I picked up a 360 in order to get games that everyone complained SHOULD be on the PS3, simply because it was a PS3...

Ok, so you did a survey with 50 million Wii owners? Has it been published yet?

ot, Capcom is a fu---ng joke and they will continue to be a joke. They just don't care about money from the Wii and that is ok, they are forgotten.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

However, in this case, I 100% agree with him. Online coop is not really needed in Spyborgs, and it's not like it's mandatory considering how many online coop games there are on the Wii (about zero).

Besides, the Wii is absolutely horribly designed for online games. Both for us gamers as for developers.

This is a good summary. I have railed against Sven many times. But if the game has local co-op (which it appears but I cannot verify since the Capcom website is down), then I don't see this as a problem. Except that Sven does not know when to keep his mouth shut and hates the Wii.

PS -- On-line multiplayer is being phased in (and local phased out) because you have to sell separate copies of the game for on-line multiplayer.

Zero sounds a bit harsh. However the list of online coop wii games is short:

Battalion Wars 2
Endless Ocean
Super Smash Bros: Brawl
Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles - Echoes of Time
Nights: Journey of Dreams
Guitar Hero: World Tour
Animal Crossing

However Monster Hunter 3 may be added soon to this list. (And it is from Capcom ...)

Well it is a feature in a game that is implemented on the software level for the most part. There are a few questions I suppose that must be answered before I can properly respond to the question posed though. First off is whether or not online co-op requires a sepcialized and unique piece of equipment to implement. To my knowledge it does not, but if it does please stop here as I am unaware of it.

Now let us look at the other requirements for online co-op. The machine itslef can access the internet and communicate in a way to allow two player to enjoy a game simultaneously. The machine appears capable of handling 2 players on screen simulateously.  The games genre itself lends to a co-operative rather than combative playstyle so that really isn't an issue. The developer also appears capable of financing the venture without need to make minor sacrifices for the sake of time.

All of this seems to add up to the game and machine being fully capable of online co-op. As such, I would say this would only be an appropriate time to put forth your statement if you wanted to look extremely foolish, if not dumb. Of course you wouldn't be dumb so I doubt you would state something so absurd.

They should take a look at the Grinder.

Good point about MH3. It makes Sven look like a fool.

These.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

I agree with him that online should never be an afterthought. Poorly implemented online might as well be no online at all. Though others are equally correct in that they wouldn't even think about leaving the feature out if it were on other consoles

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
