Epic boss Mark Rein sat down with VG247 at Develop in Brighton, England last week to chat about the firm’s Unreal Engine. Rein revealed that the engine behind APB (and many others) is due for an update and the new features “will blow people away.”

“It’s a very mature engine and we’re adding great new features every year,” said Rein.

“I just saw some incredible new stuff that we’re either later this year or next year for new engine features and I think they’re really going to blow people away.”

Rein said earlier that if they a had an engine incremental numeration system, “we’d be at about 3.8 right now.”

well th UE3 has yet to blow me away... i just see it as a basic engine with good graphic

I wonder how awesome Gears 3 will look like...

BLAH BLAH BLAH..... He is a SALESMAN. He is trying to sell the unreal engine to developers. Ofcourse he is going to hype it as if it's the best thing ever. Until we see what the features are, this is all nonsense.

It was one of the first true next-gen engines.

Maybe you missed the beginning of this gen, but people were impressed when games like Rainbow Six Vegas, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and Gears of War came out in 2006.

At this rate, Unreal 4 will be out before this gen is over. Then what are they gonna do? v3.91, v3.92, et al . . .

Anyway, there are so many engines out there now that he needs to push any enhancements he can. No reason to fry the man.

As a guess, the added features are probably more designed around keeping the Unreal 3 Engine competitive with other engines for PC development; and it would be unlikely that Gears of War 3 would look dramatically different from Gears of War 2 on the XBox 360.

I dunno.  I mean the Unreal engine is WAY more then just graphics. 

i am more impressed by cry engine 3 , uncharted, GT engine, and killzone 2 engine.
