Forums - General - Car insurance companies are a complete scam!

When I was 17 I paid £1125 for my car. I paid £1800 for my first year of insurance. So basically they were saying that I was going to write off my car 1.5 times in one year.

Car insurance shouldn't be compulsary.

basic government mandated car insurance isn't about covering the damage to your car in an accident. It is about protecting you from the costs related to the damage a motor vehicle can cause. This covers damage to other people (both pedestrians and drivers), yourself, and to others property.

  • Think how fucked your life would be if you got in an accident that made someone a pararpeligic, and you were given the bill to cover their care.
  • Think how fucked your life would be if you got in an accident that made you a pararpeligic, and the person responsible had no money to cover your care.

At least in canada the coverage you described to pay for your car if it was damaged in a crash (if it was your fault) is not compulsory, but is an additional expense one can take on if they so choose.

When you take it in to them, be sure to tell the guy what the last company did and ask him to personally peruse the car in detail. Your earnestness in ensuring the car is road legal and properly inspected may bode well for your chances of approval.

Yeah with the new insurance... I will try to work with them when they check my car, see if there is something they don't like and offer to change it. But everything i have is cosmetic...so if they don't like my hood, then thats just rediculous.

I paid about the same when i started driving and my first car wasn't even insured. Only liability...meaning that only people/things outside my car were covered. If I wanted to insure my car as well it would have been double. And the shitty 1994 V6 mustang at the time just wasn't worth it...

I would read your contract. Find every reason they can drop you and make sure that whatever justification they give needs some sort of proof.

I don't know how things work in Canada, but you could probably fight just four pictures taken of the car without having looked at it.

Other than that, all I can say is that sucks.

I read eveything the insurance company sent me before and there was nothing stating about not being able to insure modified cars. Below is the letter they sent me... This is why I'm saying that they are making this up as they go along... I've never seen this on my contract.

Maybe they think you're going to watch highspeed porn in it.
