Accusations of vapour-ware against Digi-Guy's Wardevil progressed into late last year, but now there's new signs that the project is still alive and well.
Wardevil: Unleash the Beast Within, originally announced in 2005, was first cancelled for the Xbox 360 and then became a mysterious PlayStation 3 exclusive that would earn gradual screenshot and trailer leaks throughout the past four years.
If you're to visit the official Wardevil website you'll find the following ageing statement: "More images, trailers & information will be released throughout 2008, before the all-new Wardevil site relaunches."
That's not too promising considering not much new information came during the year, with the further fact that the website's copyright protection only stretches to 2008 raises questions as to whether the game really has disappeared into oblivion.
However, late last year Digi-Guys told Gamercyte:
"We'll be releasing new material in 2009, but when/how is in the hands of our publisher - therefore, we must keep to their schedules.
"WarDevil is progressing to plan - it has a long development process as we're creating an engine, a game & short movie and each of these elements can take a lot of time on their own."
With this Digi-Guys announced the Wardevil Chronicles, a 2D cartoon within the Wardevil universe, further providing a teaser trailer that you can find below.
Ignition Entertainment is the game's publisher, also responsible for King of Fighters XII, and today unveiled a new revamped official website for the company.
"We are determined to live up to our commitment to bring premium quality games to multiple platforms," said Ajay Chadha, president of Ignition Entertainment.
"We look forward to utilizing this website to help communicate news and information with our partners and unite our fans and gamers worldwide," she added.
If you make your way over to Ignition's new website you'll find that the very first game to be publicised is Wardevil: Unleash the Beast Within.
Although clicking on this teaser leads to the official Wardevil website, which hasn't been updated since 2008, the words "Coming Soon" surely nod towards new information and a possible release this year? Otherwise, why feature Wardevil as the prominent game on your newly launched corporate and community website?
We've contacted Ignition Entertainment, a UTV Enterprise, for comment.
