Forums - Nintendo - FF II or FF III (US)

The DS remake of FFII is better than the SNES version of FFIII. However, if you just want to compare FFII and FFIII for SNES, get FFIII - if you only plan on buying one game. If you eventually plan on buying both games, get FFII first because FFIII is better, and that way you won't be let down by the second game you buy.

Ugh this thread hurts my head. Man I wish NA would have gotten all the final fantasy games when they were released then we wouldn't have this problem.

FF1 pretty basic light warrior stuff
FF2 worst final fantasy ever made and not released in NA until remakes appeared. You can get FF1 and 2 for the GBA.
FF3 pretty basic light warrior crystal stuff. Not released in NA but there is a really good remake of it on DS.
FF4 Cecil the dark night and his quest. Released as FF2 in NA. There is a really good remake of it on the DS as well. There is also a version for the Gameboy advance if I remember correctly but I believe that one is a direct port
FF5 never played it. I think it got released in the PS1 anthology pack.
FF6 story of Terra and espers. FF3 in the NA region. Often considered one of the best along with 4, 7, and 10.

FF4 you can get on DS. As far as I know FF6 hasn't been remade for the DS yet so it might be a good idea to get that for you SNES.

I'm not a huge Final Fantasy fan, but I like FF II better than FF III. FF III had a better story and setting but I thought the battle system in II was much more intuitive and fun.

"Pier was a chef, a gifted and respected chef who made millions selling his dishes to the residents of New York City and Boston, he even had a famous jingle playing in those cities that everyone knew by heart. He also had a restaurant in Los Angeles, but not expecting LA to have such a massive population he only used his name on that restaurant and left it to his least capable and cheapest chefs. While his New York restaurant sold kobe beef for $100 and his Boston restaurant sold lobster for $50, his LA restaurant sold cheap hotdogs for $30. Initially these hot dogs sold fairly well because residents of los angeles were starving for good food and hoped that the famous name would denote a high quality, but most were disappointed with what they ate. Seeing the success of his cheap hot dogs in LA, Pier thought "why bother giving Los Angeles quality meats when I can oversell them on cheap hotdogs forever, and since I don't care about the product anyways, why bother advertising them? So Pier continued to only sell cheap hotdogs in LA and was surprised to see that they no longer sold. Pier's conclusion? Residents of Los Angeles don't like food."

FF5 was basically FF3 but better.

New story and all but they went back to the traditional FF3 format.

You have a very hard choice to make. Both 2+3 are great games. My top two favorite FF's actually. They both have great stories, characters, music, etc etc. I think there is more to do and find in FF3. If I based my choice on my first play threw I would go with FF2 by a slim margin. If you are able make sure to get both in time. They are better than any of the newer FF's. Well actually I think they are better then any newer RPG by a landslide.

I have the choice of purchasing Final Fantasy II or Final Fantasy III for the Super NES.

I recommend Final Fantasy III.

Why are the PS1 releases bad?

Loading times EVERYWHERE...  I want to say there are load times between battles.... and the sound quality is worse then the SNES.

I don't even play mine.

Yeah, it's pretty frustrating how bad they are but the load times just completely ruin it.

It isn't just a load time when going from screen to screen but there's a 5-10 second load time on everything.  Feel like checking a random stat or how far you are into a level?  Be prepared for long ass load times.

It sounds like a very small issue, but believe me, it just couldn't be more painful.  I'm one of the biggest FFVI fanboys on this site but even I'm perfectly willing to admit those two games may look like an awesome deal but they really are quite terrible.

Those things are even more of an embaressment than FFX-2 and FF Mystic Quest combined.

I tried playing Chrono Trigger again (FF Chronicles) a few months before the DS version came out and I couldn't even make it a 1/3 way through the game it was so terrible.

I still argue FF Mystic Quest is excellent for what it's supposed to be.

A starter RPG for younger children and those who've never played an RPG before.

I agree that it's a great RPG for kids (though not so much for new to RPG's) but that still doesn't make it a good Final Fantasy game.

Like many people already said, get FFIII (6) and then you can get II on the DS.

I wonder if I could twist that logic and use it on Wii Fit.
