Ugh this thread hurts my head. Man I wish NA would have gotten all the final fantasy games when they were released then we wouldn't have this problem.
FF1 pretty basic light warrior stuff
FF2 worst final fantasy ever made and not released in NA until remakes appeared. You can get FF1 and 2 for the GBA.
FF3 pretty basic light warrior crystal stuff. Not released in NA but there is a really good remake of it on DS.
FF4 Cecil the dark night and his quest. Released as FF2 in NA. There is a really good remake of it on the DS as well. There is also a version for the Gameboy advance if I remember correctly but I believe that one is a direct port
FF5 never played it. I think it got released in the PS1 anthology pack.
FF6 story of Terra and espers. FF3 in the NA region. Often considered one of the best along with 4, 7, and 10.
FF4 you can get on DS. As far as I know FF6 hasn't been remade for the DS yet so it might be a good idea to get that for you SNES.
