I always see it as being charged when a company puts advertisements up there to see, the more obtrusive, the more you're charged - and the more money the facilitator makes. I really don't like the direction Microsoft has taken with putting Advertisements within their Nxe on xboxlive, I don't want to see more and more of this in the industry - gaming has been for awhile a place free of yourself being exploited by unnecessary consumerism. I hate to say it but it's like microsoft is planning to sell hardware at a loss only to make up the loss by subjecting you to ads, overpriced peripherals, and paying for online. (and it's working.) You can imagine the flack Microsoft would get if they put adds on every third item in the Window's taskbar. Honestly with the advertisements you see on xbox live which a lot of people pay for, Microsoft should be sending you a check in the mail.
I really don't understand why people stand by and accept this sort of bull.
If you think somehow ads don't effect you or don't effect your spending habits, you're lieing to yourself, you can be perfectly happy without all the stuff they want you to buy. Perhaps it's better you didn't see the add at all so they won't convince you you need what they want you to buy.
