That is of course assuming that the only evolutionary value of being alive is for one to pass their genes forward. Which is just an assumption. Ever wonder why people don't die when they become incapable of reproduction? They're still serving a purpose to the species, for example taking care of the younger members.

Maybe gay people are nature's way of slightly controlling overpopulation. In this perspective gay people are blocking resources others could use for reproduction.

If this were true, then sex shouldn't be pleasurable. It would seem that nature wants us to have sex for recreation, not just procreation. And did you also know that dolphins have sex for pleasure as well?

I hate to burst bubbles, but nature likes to multitask any facet of life. In higher mammals specifically those that are reasonably intelligent sex is pleasurable. It has many functions for these animals. It strengthens social bonds, alleviates stress, and of coarse it allows for procreation. However for most animals sex is not about pleasure, in fact for many animals it is dangerous or even painful. The reason these creatures have sex is, because their instincts compel them. Smart creatures have the capacity to deny instinct. Basically nature has to trick smart creatures into having sex. So it makes sex integral to other behaviors, and has made it pleasant to prevent aversion.

I highly doubt this was a homosexual penguin. Just a penguin with no real choice. It needs to socialize as penguins need to do and another male is better then a rock. The competition dies and it moves up the ranks. That isn't to say I doubt homosexuality isn't a natural state in many higher mammals. I think we are going to find in time that homosexuality performs a special role in high order mammals. Most especially in human society. Just another behavior necessary for a healthy community. Humans form hierarchies and perhaps this life style befits the role of a non threatening impartial party. Who knows for sure. I just know that human behaviors whether we understand it or not serve some purpose.

Speaking to the bigoted Christian website they really disgust me. For a group that celebrates overcoming persecution at the hands of the Romans. They should know the evils of persecution. Jesus had something to say about hypocrites perhaps they should look to that for guidance.

Dodece I'm glad I'm not the only one who acknowledges that not all individual traits have to benefit the individual and their genes.

In fact we have concrete examples of individuals who have not passing their genes as an evolved trait, for example worker bees in a bee colony, who work for the queen bee to pass its genes on.

Evolution isn't just about individuals. It often is about the species as a whole.
