That's funny cause the most highly regarded PS3 game (FFXIII) is also not exclusive....weird...

It is in the only real region where it matters.

Less than 50% of any Final Fantasy's sales comes from Japan. Something is telling me Square doesn't think Japan is the only region that matters.

Okay, I'll explain this a bit more clearly and why Japan is the only region that matters for FFXIII.

By getting a deal to have FFXIII on 360, Microsoft thought that they were doing away with any chance that the PS3 had of being able to overtake the 360 in sales.  However, what they actually did was just postpone that by only getting an agreement to have their own version of the game in the West.  Also, they totally failed to get Versus XIII for the 360.  Two exclusive Final Fantasies in Japan for the PS3 combined with Gran Turismo and some other games and the general Japanese preference for the PS3 over the 360 when it comes to multiplat versions of games.  That will combine to reach a point where after the release of Versus XIII in Japan, the PS3 will have a 5x advantage for the PS3 over the 360 in Japan.

This 5 to 7 million PS3ssold in Japan to less than 1.5 million 360's sold there following the releases of the Final Fantasies and Gran Turismo will lead to more Japanese developers working on many more PS3 games and / or exclusives than they do 360 games in the coming years.

One of the biggest complaints that you hear about why PS3 can't overtake 360 is because thereisn't enough diversity between the lineups of the two consoles.  However, this development of almost all Japanese HD games for PS3 many of them as exclusives following the 5 to 7 million milestone for the PS3 in Japan will cause there to be much more diversity between the PS3 and 360 libraries which in turn will cause the PS3 to be able to make up a lot of ground particularly in Europe against 360 following the release of FF Versus XIII.

So, yes FFXIII will have an impact for Square's pocketbooks that it is on both PS3 and 360 in the West.  However, the fact that it and Versus XIII are PS3 exclusives in Japan and perhaps still worldwide for PS3 in the case of Versus will only really be of importance in the grand scheme of things for the influence that they have with increasing the PS3's sales in Japan to the point where they cause most Japanese developers that want to make HD games to make them primarily as PS3 exclusives.

Here's your explanation summarized:

"FFXIII is important because it, along with a bunch of other games, can lead the PS3 to beat the 360 in Japan (as if it isn't already), this will mean all japanese developers jump on the PS3 like some sort of bandwagon and develop all of their games exclusively on the system which will in turn lead the PS3 to win Worldwide"

There are so many misconceptions in the above post that I'll just point out the big one for now: you're ignoring the Wii.

"Pier was a chef, a gifted and respected chef who made millions selling his dishes to the residents of New York City and Boston, he even had a famous jingle playing in those cities that everyone knew by heart. He also had a restaurant in Los Angeles, but not expecting LA to have such a massive population he only used his name on that restaurant and left it to his least capable and cheapest chefs. While his New York restaurant sold kobe beef for $100 and his Boston restaurant sold lobster for $50, his LA restaurant sold cheap hotdogs for $30. Initially these hot dogs sold fairly well because residents of los angeles were starving for good food and hoped that the famous name would denote a high quality, but most were disappointed with what they ate. Seeing the success of his cheap hot dogs in LA, Pier thought "why bother giving Los Angeles quality meats when I can oversell them on cheap hotdogs forever, and since I don't care about the product anyways, why bother advertising them? So Pier continued to only sell cheap hotdogs in LA and was surprised to see that they no longer sold. Pier's conclusion? Residents of Los Angeles don't like food."

"The so-called "hardcore" gamer is a marketing brainwashed, innovation shunting, self-righteous idiot who pays videogame makers far too much money than what is delivered."

Even better than that, the scenario basically calls for a massive shift after something like 7 million consoles sold and after the release of Versus XIII, meaning that Japanese developers that do this jump will begin in 2010, meaning their first projects won't see the light of day before late 2011 or 2012. Yeah that'll show the Xbox 360 three years from now!

Wow I came in here expecting to see Super Mario Galaxy losing exclusivity.. Truly shocking..

Besides, this is old :P

That's what I thought when I saw the title too.

I'm wondering if OP knows that Dragon Quest 9 is on DS and Monster Hunter 3 is on Wii.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

^yeah, but Capcom has basically confirmed more Monster Hunter for PSP and hinted it was coming to PS3.

Also with developer tools like Crystal Tools, etc, in place PS3 development won't take nearly as long as the two years Onyxmeth speculates it will take to develop PS3 games. It's taking them less than a year to develop games like Tales of Vesperia PS3 and Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 now.

Also he says I expect the shift to begin after the release of Versus when the PS3 hits the seven million mark, however, the I think the shift as far as Japanese HD gaming goes started earlier this year when the PS3 had that run of beating the Wii there for nearly twelve weeks in a row and games like Tales of Vesperia PS3 and Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 former 360 exclusives were announced for PS3 and was further congfirmed at E3 with the announcement Lost Planet 2 thought to be a big Japanese 360 exclusive was confirmed to be coming to PS3 and it will have become very noticeable after the release of Gran Turismo 5 and FFXIII later this year when the PS3 has sold about 5 million copies in Japan versus the 360's less than 1.25 million copies.  There will be a large enough PS3 install base in Japan at that point that Japanese developers won't have to make multiplat versions of their games for Western audiences to ensure profit.

And yes, the PS3 in the 5 to 7 million range in Japan after the release of Versus XIII will have too large of an install base there for Japanese developers to continue to ignore. Look at how many exclusives are always being announced for PSP even though it has sold less than half the number of DSs in Japan.

Yeah think it was a Wii/PSP game fromt he start, thats how alot of Wii games (3rd party) are sometimes, so the PSP was a shoe in.

But PS2?... what the hell?

It looks like the OP dropped this

Could someone return it to him?

It's always great to be able to be flippant.  Just ask Microsoft if it makes them feel better after they have to watch Gran Turismo 5 and FFXIII shave two million off of their worldwide console lead later this year only due to the the Japanese sales of those games.

The question can also be asked of the developers of Forza 3 after their game fails to sale 100,000 copies in Japan while GT5 easily passes the 1 million mark there also.

Yes it is certainly great to be flippant. It's hard to take you seriously when this thread was an obvious attempt at trolling. When Silent Hill: Shattered Memories was announced in April, it was revealed to be a a Wii/PSP/PS2 game. The Wii is the lead platform but it was never an exclusive title. As for anything you typed after your first sentence, that has nothing to do with YOU trying to stir up forum drama and owning yourself because you didn't realize that game was announced as multiplatform.

This thread was an attempt to set the record straight.  While it might appear to be the game that looks to be the strongest candidate for Wii Game of the Year (http://blogs.ign.com/Jess-IGN/p2 scroll down to May 29 entry), it isn't exclusive to Wii because it can also be enjoyed on PS2 and PSP, and there have been at least a couple of people to post in this thread that said they knew it was also going to be on PSP but were surprised or shocked to find out it was also going to be on PS2.
