Forums - Sony - Sony Ericsson Q2 earnings (OUCH)

sony ericsson its a company apart.
so i read, but that joint venture looks like going to end.

and its not apple killing them but nokia and samsung.

both nokia samsung took cameraphone crown from sony ericsson after k800, and nokia and samsung have cheap mp3 player phones  with 3.5mm jackports.

apple and htc got minimal marketshare, while they are making  a dent in smartphones marketshare, its not nokia the one loosing it actualy they got back 3% this quarter

This would be something to sell off that not too many people would miss. They could also do Walkman with iPod dominance abound.

Surprised, anyone? The entire Japanese market as a whole is down 50% in the last 24 months so Sony Ericsson aren't doing any worse than the rest of the country.
Which, of course, does nothing to alleviate the "ouch" part...

interesting to see, that they cut down the costs by almost 1billion € within a year

I still like the Sony Ericsson phones over all others, I just got the C905 a couple of months ago and the new Satio coming out in September/October looks amazing.
Nokia are getting better, but I find their navigation a bit too buggy

Theirs are the only Sony products I genuinely like better over their competitors

Never argue with idiots
They bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience

the demand for sony erricson phones are much higher than before, Nokia is losing alot of potential sales.
but of course to "Demand" something is not the same as "Buying" something.

people want to buy sony stuff stuff but end up buying the cheaper stuff.

As far as I can remember, Sony Ericsson phones were nevert that popular. I think they lost money for years (or just broke even) even before this recession.

Being 50% down and talking about a higher demand is a major spin.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

^ well, they aren't "50% down" though     ... shippments are 43.44% down and revenue is 40.43% down

No suprises - buying new more fancy phone is first thing to be cut from home budgets when in recession.

Actually... They have not come with an exciting phone for years now. The next good thing is the Idou (a 12Mpx camera phone with touch screen and symbian) and the Aino, which is supposed to support remote play with PS3 (Awesome).

So yet I'm not surprise they had losses, if it's still like that after these two releases, they should worry.

They will know Helgan belongs to Helghasts

@kowenicki : well they made very solid music phone with the walkman brand that sold well till recently. Now people are interested in screens more.

If they can come with a good touch/music/photo phone, they could be back in the game quickly. The Idou is not cool enough in my opinion, but the Aino looks promising.
