Romour has it that Chelsea have offered AC Milan Essien in return for Pirlo...

That would be the worst transfer ever! Don't do it Chelsea!! Essien is our second best midfielder after Lampard. I will never forgive Carlo if this happens

really, ha, Essien is younger and better than Pirlo imo, your right in saying that would be a stupid transfer, but remember, Ancelotti focused on the Champions League with AC, and Abramovich sees that as the main prize, so its likely Chelsea will concentrate on the UCL this season, which could in theory harm there chances in the league.

Oh the new FIFA ranking came out, I dont trust this ranking very much, but its interesting anyways.

The top 10 is:
1. Brazil
2. Spain
3. Netherlands
4.Germany
5. Italy
6. Russia
7. England
8. Argentina
9. France
10. Croatia

The south american positions after that would be Paraguay(20), Uruguay(21), Chile(26), Ecuador(36), Colombia(45), Venezuela(54), Bolivia(63), Peru(89).

Mexico is 30 and the USA is 12. http://es.fifa.com/worldfootball/ranking/lastranking/gender=m/fullranking.html

The FIFA ranking is pretty crap since you actually gain points for losing to a good team, and the good team would lose points even when beating a crappy team.  I like this ranking better:

http://www.eloratings.net/world.html

That said, the Elo ratings put England at 4th, which is ridiculous.  I think FIFA ranks England and Russia too high.

no, its not, were gonna win the World Cup next year, so its only right that we are in the top 5.

believe me, watch this space, no-one believed me when i said this before the 2007 rugby world cup, and it almost worked, England only lost in the final.

England will win, i wont stop saying this till it happens

It's good to be enthusiastic, and good luck to you, but England is not going to win. :D

England are better than America and have have more chance of winning the world cup than them. Thats all i'm sure of.

Being as I am not stupid, I won't disagree.  But you still won't win :P

Given the horrible form Pirlo exhibited last season this would be a dreadful mistake for Chelsea.  If they were smart, they would offer Lampard for Pirlo.

Essien is the best chelsea player so i really doubt that they would do such stupid thing, without him they loose a lot in their midfield.

Pirlo once was a great player, but last 2-3 seasons he simply faded, maybe it is because he spent too much time at milan, a team that well have been disappointing its fans for few years. Chelsea should sign him cause he still can be great but not for huge money.

What do you guys think about Aquilani transfer to Liverpool? He is a very gifted player that can pass the ball well and has a good shot from distance on him, the only problem however is that he seems very fragile and havent played a full season in last 3 seasons for Roma.

I think it was a good deal for both clubs Roma got 20 milion pounds to spend on some players and maybe challenge for Europa League. And Liverpool got a gifted player that could develop further if he stays fit.

Bundesliga started this evening with the opening match VfL Wolfsburg (current champion) vs. VfB Stuttgart (3rd place last season).

Result: Wolfsburg 2:0 Stuttgart

having looked up his history and stats, i think that £20m is about twice as much as any club should pay for him.

he is also out for the first month of the season injured, seems like a case of "we must replace Alonso, let's get whoever is available" and then pay over the odds for him.

Aquilani is 25 now, he also like you said has fitness problems, its gonna take alot for him to develop further, he's gonna need to his best season yet to be anywhere near value for money for them imo, like i said, i dont think its a good deal (well, unless you support Roma, in which case, you get to sell a guy who is often unfit to play for twice his value, there quids in and laughing)

for £10m, it would have been a fiar deal, at £20m, its a bad deal for Liverpool, especially given he will miss the first month of there season.
