I'll be happy to pass the group stage of the competition, damn group with Cote d'Ivoire, North Korea and Brazil

Oh well, Portugal Allez!!

Its the group of death!

So true . Our fate in the WC will be dictated if we manage to pull out the victory against Cote d'ivoire and North Korea in the first two games. If we leave the decision to the game against Brazil, we're pretty much done for

England on the other hand....Lets just say I think we will go through.....

England has a very accesible group. Probably the USA or Slovenia can put up a bit of a challenge, but it wouldn't surprise me if England passes the group with the 9 points

Rio Ferdinand OUT of world cup injured... was BOUND to happen.  He cant string 5 games together these days.  Said it before here to scifi boy.... he will never be the same player he was, he breaks down very easily.

At least its happened early and we can get a replacement,  Dawson is on his way.  I would prefer dawson on current form anayway.

Gerrard captain now presumably... also good.

This all might work out better imo.

Oh... Drogba out with a broken arm too!!

Good news for Portugal

We had some injury scares in the past few months, but fortunately no one got seriously injured.

Sad to see no Drogba, Essein or Ballack at the world cup. Hopefully they will all be fit for the start of the season.

Rio out of the world cup because of a Heskey challange... why is Heskey there anyway...

I know this kind of stuff happens in training too (in 2002 or 2006 Emerson broke his arm while training as a GOALKEEPER ), but I'd rather have no friendlies or only friendlies against the likes of Zimbabwe instead of qualified teams. and it's not only about injuries, it's about unnecessary pressure too, like what's going on with Italy right now, because they lost to Mexico.

Well, to be fair, pressure will always mount no matter what kind of team is played against.

Take for example Portugal. We played against Cape Verde and we drew 0-0. Everybody started saying that our team sucked, fans were booing in the training and there was tons of pressure on the players.
Afterwards, we went and won 3-1 against Cameroon (we could have scored two additional goals if Ronaldo wasn't missing so many goals) and then everybody started singing praises and how we actually had a chance, etc, etc.

I for one think that there shouldn't be so many preparation matches this close to the WC. It creates false hopes, expectations or anger against the teams.

In regards to England i've been asking myself that for 10 years....

I get the feeling that Ledley King can soon establish himself with a fans favourite as people think losing our Captain is disasterous. Can I just remind people that King has been (when he has played) the best defender in the Premiership last year.

So now Ferdinand is out, who is captain?

Every cloud....hahaha

you know ALGERIA knocked  the IVORY COAST out of the afican cup of nations,i'd say the USA are better than the ivory coast too,

i wouldn't call it the group of death at all.not for brasil anyway, they'll walk it,if portugal can't beat north korea and the ivorians they don't deserve to being going through anyway,

good luck anyway, obviously who wins between portugal and the ivory cast will decide who goes through, life got easier without drogba

                                                                                                                                        Above & Beyond

shame about rio, because he had experience at the world cup,

but i don;t think he was exactly fit anyway,we are worryingly slow now  at centreback,no doubt thats going to cost us

i think i'd prefer terry carragher to terry and upson, can't see him playing dawson as he didn't pick himin the first place,

king is a risk, but you'd assume it would be terry and king up first

Algeria got beat 3:0 by Republic of Ireland in a friendly, we shouldn't have to many problems
