SNES was a great console. However, the Playstation took gaming to another level into a new era. Playstation 1 was the first console to have video games run on a CD. It is also the same console that would put the final fantasy series into a higher level than the previous game did on the nintendo consoles. Playstation, during its time, establish some very popular IPs such as Crash Bandicoot, Spyro and Tomb Raider.

playstation isnt responsible for crash, spyro and tomb raider. those could have just as easily been on sega saturn or nintendo 64. i like the playstation, but sony just wasnt very creative. it was more like they were leeching off of nintendo's success.

It was my understanding that Sony made crash, and spyro with partnership with naughty dog..

did sony have a hand in developing crash? hmm.. i didnt know that

i bet you though, that crash would have been better on the 64.

Naughty Dog made Crash and Spyro for Universal. Sony paid Universal for exclusivity. When PS2 came around Sony decided it didn't need mascot games and stopped paying for exclusive rights. That's why Universal is able to make Crash and Spyro games without Naughty Dog or Sony. Since Naughty Dog created Spyro and Crash while contracted to Universal, Universal retained rights to those IPs despite them being created by Naughty Dog. Similar to how Krystal was created by Rare but because Nintendo owns the Star Fox IP. They own Krystal's character.

Sony has alays had good partnerships with 2nd party and sony does have a hand in development. i doubt crash would have been better.. youre just being biased

I think to most gamers the SNES wins as far as what had the most classics, but to answer the second part of the question the Playstation opened up the industry to a larger more mainstream audience.
