The nintendo and 360 numbers are from there latest quarterly update on shipments, the ps3 number is from december shipments from sony.
Vgchartz tracks consumer sales not shipped figures |
Nope. The only one of those three figures that comes close to the last released shipment figures (which are all for the same date by the way) are the X360 ones.
The end of March shipment LTD figures were:
Wii - 50.39 mil
360 - 30.20 mil
PS3 - 22.73 mil
This is NPD, they don't state shipped figures... but don't actually track worldwide figures either,... I believe I remember a partnership between them and GfK though to release certain figures every so often.... it is possible that is what these figures are (added to Media Create or Famitsu as well) but the Wii figure seems high for it to be this.... it would make sense that it was the most over-represented compared to VGC because I think the NPD/GfK partnership thing would only include Western Europe/Aus and not Eastern Europe/Asian countries where the Wii is barely released, or if it is released, doing poorly compared to PS3 and 360 anyway. But I don't think it would account to that much.

is this what u mean: that NPD Group provides shipped consoles while VGChartz provides sold consoles cause i dont know about that cause the magazine said By The Numbers and then below it said Results Provided by NPD group and then below it said Life-to-date worldwide console sales notice the word sales.... and then below that were the numbers.... |
No... leo is wrong, NPD do not release shipped figures, only sales.... but they only track the USA (and Canada but they are usualy released seperately) so in reality if NPD did release worldwide figures it could only be if they added their own numbers to that of GfK (Europe/Australia) and Media Create or Famitsu (who track Japan)
I suspect there has been a mistake somewhere though, as the 54 millon Wii number seems very high... it's possible VGChartz has been undertracking it but I don't think by that much.
