How the hell did that 428 game get a perfect score? What are they smoking?

OT: Expected. It's Japan's favorite franchise and now it's portable.

Just because it's not your "favourite" genre, doesn't make it bad.

If the game does what it's supposed to do perfectly, then...

(Wii)Dragonball: Revenge of King Piccolo - 6,6,5,6

I hope the game is better than this score.

I hope it too. From the trailers it looks really fun.

This really does make you wonder about the naysayers on Amazon Japan.

FF XII received a 40/40 from Famitsu aswell and sold considerably less then many of the previous iterations

Somehow I don't think Dragon Quest IX's sales are going to be moved by either of these sources.

Amazon, no.  Famitsu, yes.  Games in the past have become popular in Japan based on simply getting a positive score in Famitsu.  While Dragon Quest is already popular, the game could sell more copies just because it got a perfect score in Famitsu.

I doubt it will move that many more copies than it would have had it gotten a 37/40 and drop it too far it the review hurts Famitsu's credibility more than DQ9's.  So yeah, I still don't see either making a big difference.

Well, i'm positively surprised now. I know that the series is huge in japan, and that they love it there, but after DQ8, which wasn't as great as the other DQ's (don't get me wrong, I love the series, DQV is amongst my top RPG of all time, the story of the game is simply astonishing) and the spin-offs DQ:Joker and DQ Swords, that they would be a bit hesitant.

Glad to see that they still it's still as good as ever, and this has definetily gone to my "To Buy" list ;)

Japan loved DQVIII and it was not only a financial success but one of the most popular games of the series, probably only behind DQIII and V.  I would assume its just your view that DQVIII was 'not as good' as the others.

Why no surprise?

It's the first DQ getting a perfect score.

Anyway, Fatmitsu's scores can't be taken too serious for years now.
It's a public secret that they are biased towards the big companies and popular franchises.

''Hadouken!''

50 Cent got a better score than Punch out? wtf..
