Forums - Gaming - Battlefield 1943 Coral Sea map unlocked on LIVE

Via EA's PR release:

All pilots on deck! Battlefield 1943 explodes on Xbox 360 as players worldwide came together to reach 43M kills that unlocked the spectacular Coral Sea bonus map. For only $15, players can download Battlefield 1943, which includes three addictive maps; Wake Island, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. A fourth map, Coral Sea, is now available to play on Xbox LIVE. After the official countdown began last Friday, July 10 at 19:43 CEST, the Xbox Live community reached the goal of 43M kills in just five days and have been rewarded with the new map that features the exclusive game mode called Air Superiority. Now when players go to play the game they will be offered a new option in the main menu titled “Play Air Superiority.” Also available on PlayStation Network, the Battlefield 1943 community on PlayStation 3 is over the 22M mark.

Coral Sea is designed to showcase the intense battle in the skies, offering an all-new Air superiority game mode. The legendary WWII action this map provides will have players dog fighting in this airplanes-only map, proving once again DICE delivers on a first class online vehicle warfare experience better than anyone else! Players will be able to track the progress of their respective console communities at www.battlefield1943.com.

Battlefield 1943 is an all-new download-only multiplayer action game that brings DICE’s first-class WWII action to gamers. This award-winning game introduces two thrilling new modes where 24 players can compete across four classic WWII Battlefield maps: Wake Island, Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima and Coral Sea. These maps are inspired by the award winning Battlefield 1942 game, but have been redesigned and reengineered using the DICE Frostbite™ engine allowing players to rain havoc and destruction via land, sea or air.

Battlefield 1943 is now available on Xbox LIVE Marketplace (1200 MS Points) and the PlayStation Store ($14.99). Just in case gamers didn’t get a full experience the first time, they can access the free 30-minute trial version again on both Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network starting July 18.

What now?

Anyway, clear to see this game is doing well, I got it on PS3, because when I tried it on 360 I couldn't connect to EA servers, but still great fun and only a few days until it is unlocked on PS3 too

Just played a few rounds. It really drives home how much I suck at the planes.

Fun, though!

Ey Badgenome... if the map is anything like the original Coral Sea I know a great sniping position for both sides where you will easily rack up kills from the island all the way to the ship :D. It was not unusual for me to have a 35-0 k/d ratio

Actually, I saw your earlier post and tried to swim for the island to try and find this position, but apparently the rules of this new Air Superiority mode state that you shall die if you leave the carrier without a plane.

It's an automatic suicide if you jump in the water or bail out of the plane.

The carriers have landing ships. Besides, the snipers would hit you while you are in water anyhow. Amazingly, I got sniped a few times manning those guns on the Japanese carrier.

I had the same prob on the demo. Fortunately, EA sent me the code and I was able to get on. However, I did get two connection errors as well.

Oh! I'll have to try it again!

Just wondering...Does the voice chat work at Xbox live? I can't hear anyone on the game.
