Forums - Gaming - How Similar Is Disgaea 3 to Final Fantasy Tactics A2?

In this case, grinding means playing the same stage more than once to earn experience for certain characters. If it were just side quests, it wouldn't be so tedious.

There's also an "item world." You basically go inside an item and fight on randomly generated maps in order to level up the item. Some might consider this bonus content, but I find the randomly generated maps to be ugly and awkward.

This is just speaking of the original Disgaea, though. Dgc and Euphoria seem to be more familiar with the latest game in the franchise.

Disgaea does not require insane amounts of grinding if your looking to just finish the main quest. Yeah the end will be pretty hard if you don't grind but it is easily accomplished. So don't let the word "grinding" scare you away.

As for your Disgaea 1 question, no you do not need to play these games in order. You can pick up and play any game you wish. I personally would start with Disgaea 1 though, I found it's story to be the best of them all "nin nin nin".

Plus, characters from Disgaea 1 make cameo appearances in Disgaea 2 and 3 and characters from Disgaea 1 and 2 make cameo appearances in Disgaea 3. Some are even playable characters you can obtain through sidequests and in the case of Disgaea 2, some of Disgaea 1's main characters are regular characters in Disgaea 2 and play a part in the game's storyline.

Seriously though, give these games a look and if your going to play Disgaea 1 play it on the PSP. It is easily the best version IMO.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Well, they're both SRPG and the similarities stop there. The games both play very differently.

Disgaea is whole lot more deep and there a lot more to do.

Essentially with each step forward in the series, it has gotten easier to level and less necessary to grind.  In fact, in Disgaea 3 one of the character even jokes about whether or not the group should grind before facing a boss.

I would have pointed out grinding as a flaw in the original and necessary at times in the second game, but Disgaea 3 really doesn't need it as long as you're consistent with the characters you use.
