Smash bros will probably sell more overall, but it doesn't have the same rabid, hardcore following that halo does. It's the same with any Nintendo game: There's a relatively small group of players that get it in the first day, and a lot of casuals that will buy it in the first year. The same thing happens with GTA and Guitar Hero: A broader appeal makes their sales high in the long term, but not in the short term.

And yes, Nintendo's advertising doesn't even come close to what others spend. It's hard to have great first day sales when most people don't know the game's release date.

With regards to advertising, I kind of liked the old days when PS2 was in charge....not because I like PS3, but because when it was on charge, there was a REALLY good chance that every single video game you saw advertised on tv was coming out for PS2, so you didn't have to have this weird policy they've developed whereby every game they advertise has to be advertised DURING what is essentially a pre-conceived advertising format for whichever system. PS3 has that white room, Wii has the little white car driving into the sunset and two japanese guys, and 360 has the big bubble box thing. During the PS2 era all you saw was a commercial for the game, with half a second of the "PS" logo flashed either before or after it.

sorry guys, but I just don't see how Brawl could possibly outsell Halo 3...

What exactly is SSBB? Is it a party game? (never owned a GC, N64)  The only game(s) I'm planning on getting for my Wii anytime soon is Galaxy (and possibly WiiFit)

Never owned any Halo games up until this year, either. (never owned the Xbox) But now I have all 3.

I think that Super Smash Brothers Brawl will outsell Halo 3 by a little. If you think about it everyone own a Wii! They also own a xbox360. So they will buy the big tittle super smash brother brawl. Also Halo is really only popular in the US and UK. Other then that people do not like it. With SSBB everyone around the world loves the game. It has a lot of hype around the world and not just with us, but people from Japan, China,Canada ect. So I see it will pass in sales while it is out for like a year or so!!!

Smash Brothers will need a similar level of hype to match halo3. While Halo was a huge brand name with alot of hype, its massive marketing campaign no doubt contributed considerably to what it achieved.

I think Brawl will sell close to 1million on opening week. That's week, not day. Also, in the US. Brawl is the most talked about game on the internet, so I wouldn't doubt many will pick up Brawl on opening week.

I think overall, it will beat Halo3's sales. Melee sold 6million on a console that sold 20million. Brawl should be able to pass that easially, expressively as it actually sells in Japan.

SSBB will sell most overall but it will take a long time before it reach Halo 3 but it will sell most in the end.
