Forums - Nintendo - Grand Slam Tennis vs Virtua Tennis 2009

Virtua Tennis is more like Wii Sports Tennis in that shot placement is timing based as opposed to Grand Slam Tennis, which is based on how you follow through.

GST is more like a 'tennis sim' so if you want your real world tennis game to help you, pick GST

About VT: You're surely talking about the game without Motion+

GST might be better overall, but it's nowhere near being a tennis sim. It's as arcadey as it comes, just with more precision thanks to Motion+

@puffy
its time based only when u play with standard controller
with motion+ is NOT time based
and what u are saying is happening in grand slam tennis as well (its time based without the m+)

not really.. GST feels more like your form is actually doing something than VT.. Both with WM+

VT uses WM+ for slices and lobs whereas GST uses buttons, but GST is far more motion based when it comes to shot placement.

@puffy you have no idea what are u talking about
play vt again the shot is NOT time based in virtua tennis with wm+
im testing both games right now i can make infinite times the same shot in vt for example to always hit the left side with different timing and it always hits left side without errors.
what u say about vt is not true
play it again (with motion+)

i now can place my shots 90% of the time where i want it in GST but i might have to check out VT nontheless to see if its better

I don't own either game (yet), but for what it's worth, all the review sites I've seen which have reviewed both games give GST the edge over VT2009.

Here's my thread full of reviews and discussion about the two games:

I'm getting mixed messages here O_o

But anyway how you time the shot is important in real tennis. If you hit the ball early it's easier to do a cross shot, and if you hit it late then it will most likely be a straight shot. But how you follow through is important too. Why can't a game make both important?

I LOVE ICELAND!

GST maybe is better because its more challenging
thats all

VT is amazing but extremely easy!

One important question I never seem to get an answer to.

I play tennis, but apparently that won't make any difference in grand slam tennis.

Will I be able to pwn everyone in Virtua Tennis 2009 with my Tennis skills?

I think the obvious answer to this question is no. If they made the game like this, such that only people who knew how to play tennis would be good at it, then most people would suck at the game and it would be no fun.  It might make it an incredibly good game but only for a very small number of people.

:(

Why so glum?  It can still incorporate the tactics and strategies of tennis so that people with a knowledge of the game have some advantage but if the control was highly realistic i fear it would be much too unforgiving for most people.

Of course it won't be the real deal, but I want the movements to feel beliavable. As long it's not like Wii sports where I try to make a cross slice and the character does a straight top spin.

I LOVE ICELAND!
