Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The Wii wil never get the kind of third party support that the PS2 had.

People tend to forget about the NES era in all of this. NES had crap support also early on and it wasn't until late in its life that it received the support it earned through complete domination of sales. Many companies like EA didn't want to support the system and others also thought it was a step back in graphics and tech. During that time PC's were doing 16bit while the NES was 8. Plus the NES was a 'fad', sound familiar?

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

Well, the NES (relative to its time) had far more domination than the Wii...it was practically a monopoly.. that helped a lot.

Except that the gaming computers had a large share of the market.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

This has been gone over time and time again. PS2 got all the support because Third parties were following the trends of the PSX success and it paid off. It came out first and it continued to be the most successful and so they threw everything behind it and by the end, it had 90% of third party support.

In this gen, the XBOX360 came out first and got a lot of third party attention, but others were hesitant to throw out all their support, waiting to see if the PS3 would follow the PS2s success. Mostly everyone ignored the Wii. In the end, the Wii and Nintendo surprised everyone and overtook them all by force. Many are just now turning around to join up, while others are pouting and refusing to make games for them due to grudges, disbelief or simply because they think they can't make money on the system/the system is outdated/the system is 'kiddy'.

In the end, the only two things that make the PS2 and Wii similar are that they are the low end systems of their gen. But Nintendo got the VERY short end of the stick and is still fighting a very nasty label put on them by both Sony and XBOX from the last 10 years. If anything, third parties are going to continue to ignore them for the most part until the next gen, until their wallets start barking at them.

like who? devs that put hardwork and make great games made money off the HD twins easy. This is a bad statement and its wrong and im kinda sick of hearing it. No one is going down because they are not making games for the wii... for every 3rd party success on wii theres about 50 more on the HD systems.

Next gen my be a different story but not this gen.

The record revenues and record losses of third party publishers that are directly related to the high sales of HD games not being enough to compensate for their high development cost demonstrate that you're wrong ...

Yes companies are losing more money then last gen because its harder to make games for newer systems it happens every gen but what he said is 3rd parties NEED to run to the Wii to make money. and thats not true... RE5, Halo3, GTA4, SF4, MGS4 COD4 (which is also on wii and got killed but HD sales) and a whole lot that i cant remeber all sold a LOT on HD consoles and they all got LOTS of money.  and the companies that did put games on the wii sold horrible (mad world, conduit etc). Companies DONT NEED the wii as much as people think because companies are making a killing off the slower selling HD twins.

If they are making a killing why are they still posting losses?

are some of the companies that made money and did not post a lost. Also they made very FEW games on the Wii and have no metion to stop HD games. point is only a very few companies need to milk wii party games and wii fit rip offs to make money.... again like i said for every good 3rd party game on the wii theres 50 more on the HD twins.

My whole point is that software is selling fine on ps360 for companies to not make games on the wii and most of the companies above (and more that dont come to my head right now) prove that.

Dno, you are looking at single title sales instead of the whole (more total 3rd party software sells on Wii than either the PS3 or X360). You also seem to perceive actual sales as direct profit.

well no and no

1st i am FULLY aware of sales of everything almost in this industry

2nd can you reall say that any of the games i metioned didnt make a profit? if you can then im wrong..

Im not saying wii suck or wii sftware sucks all im saying is the HD twins makes money for lots of companies.. and being as there are a lot of games NOT on wii (big games) that has to prove this.

Add Ubisoft to that list.

The only big companies loosing money are EA, THQ and TakeTwo and all 3 were starting to be in trouble at the end of the last gen, so stop saying the lack of Wii support is the only reason for most of their financials problems...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

That's the whole problem with trying to make games on the 360/PS3.  They're all trying to make the next Halo/Gears of War/GTA.  But not every game can be in the '1%' club.  And if so many companies are spending multiple millions making games, but so few are getting that money back, they are going to post losses.

Many of those same companies are making cheap 'casual' titles on the Wii that cost almost nothing to make but sell anywhere from 100,000-500,000 and make MORE money then their titles on 360/PS3.  To make up the difference.  Then whine that the Wii is a 'casual system'.

hahah thats very true lol

hahah thanks for that.. i love my wii im just saying 3rd parties are doing fine off the HD twins but i just hate it when people say "in order to make money you need to make games on wii!!!" because its just not true

LoL! Recession is the answer? Even though the sales of the games you mentioned particularly GTAIV have been great but still hasn't been enough to put T2 in the black? The only thing the recession has done is expose some of the bad business decisions and hasten the process. Why are there hardly any third party exclusives for 360 or PS3? They share virtually everything with PC's because alone neither has the installed base to really cover the costs.

It is becoming to Hollywood where if it isn't a well known, heavily invested 'blockbuster' title its not going to make any sort of noise at retail.

i love how you completely ignored the rest of my post about how even in the recession big companies made money off the HD twins while not making a lot of games on the wii but i just guess that doesnt count lol.

Either way it doesnt matter im not gonna argue i have my opinion and you have yours. but some companies will have success and others wont even in a recession. EA and T2 and examples of that... but others are doing just fine
