Forums - Gaming - Top ten most influential game characters!

Good list. I disagree with the order a little but I agree with this list a lot more than most of the others that I've seen. Nancy Drew shouldn't be on there, but besides for that it's pretty good.

Master Chief should not be on there guys. It's most influencial character. Master Chief doesn't have one hundredth of the personality that Duke Nukem did. This is why Duke is on the list and not him.

Number one is a little bit of a surprise but I can't disagree with it. Without Pac-man, the increase in the popularity of gaming wouldn't have happened, and Mario might not even exist. *gasp* Too bad Pac-man's getting tanked at the bar with Spyro, Crash, and Alex Kidd right now. :(

I find the list respectable, though there was one point made that is incorrect.

"Adult" gamers did not come into gaming with Metal Gear Solid, they came in with FPS games like Doom and Quake. Back in the day of lan parties, there were more people in the 30+ range than anyone else at the local lan gaming centers. Also, RTS games like Warcraft, Starcraft, Command & Conquer were much more popular with the adult crowd. MGS games were adopted by the 16-20 crowd of kids who felt they were too "grown up" for Mario anymore.

I agree, but I think adults got into gaming even as early as Pong.

^^^ very true, Kung. Gaming actually started as an adult hobby, and really didn't get "kiddied down" properly until the 90s. Even the early NES games were often too hard/elaborate for kids, minus for Mario Bros of course.

So no Master Chief or Crash Bandicoot but Nancy Drew is there? OK

Even if Nancy Drew wasn't on the list, I wouldn't put Crash or MC in it. Exatly how important were they as CHARACTERS? Crash was only just another Sonic impersonator and Master Chief is just an average space dude with hardly any personality and almost no dialogue.

I'd have to say that its one of the better lists that I've seen.

A few choices and placements would be a little different but pretty close.

That guy has made tons of great top tens. You should check out his channel!

Just watched them. Great lists.
Thanks for pointing that out.

^^ the guy deserves more viewers.

The only list he made that I really disagree with is his top 10 RTS games. It started out good with Red Alert 1 having a high place and then... STARCRAFT AT NUMBER 3 !?!?!?!?! AND AOE2 AS NUMBER 2 !?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!111!1!!!11

Not having Starcraft at number 1 is blasphemy, and even worse, he put Age of Empires above both SC and C&C:RA ;_;

I forgave him a litte after the number 1 though.

Crash Bandicoot: Sony's mascot ( in PS1 days ) and he was the greatest platformer character after Mario

Maste Chief: Xbox's mascot, the icon on FPS games on consoles.

They added Nintendo's mascot and SEGA's mascot why not Sony's and MS's mascot?

I liked the spyro games more than the Crash games, so for me Spyro was the Sony mascot.

But anyway, Crash appeared in a very good game, but he didn't have the impact Sonic had since a platformer mascot was pioneered by Mario and Standardized by Sonic.

Same with Master chief, he isn't doing anything new for the video game character. He may represent console FPS games to some degree, but he is one of the most generic characters ever and to some degree shaped after Duke Nukem.
