Forums - Nintendo - Am I the only one....?

Alright, right now everyone is hyping up WiiSportsResort or hyping up WiiSports (For example the thread about WiiSports outselling the Wii itself). Everyone saying WSR will sell as well as WiiFit and MarioKart. It's radiculous the hype that WSR is getting among the Nintendo elite who usually save their support for bigger first party titles!

Am I the only one who see's the WiiSports series as glorified tech demo's?

Am I the only one who doesn't even have his copy of WiiSports anymore? (Probubly went into the garbage ages ago)

Am I the only one who thinks if WSR outsells MarioKart/Brawl and WiiFit that game quality as we know it will diminish?

Am I alone in wanting to see titles like the Conduit outsell games like WiiSportsResort?

Am I the only one buying RedSteel 2 for the WM+ and not getting WSR for it?

Am I the only Nintendo fan who thinks Nintendo is diluting their quality by making games like WiiPlay/WSR/WiiMusic?

Or am I just the crazy fanboy wishing for a new Pikmin , Donkey Kong or StarFox over yet another glorified tech demo?

Probably not but it will still be a better game than many other 'full' games out there.

Why would you throw out a game, i'm sorry but that's just stupid.

Why would game quality diminish?  Did the release of the Eyetoy games on the PS2 have this effect?  Wii Sports came out before Brawl and Mario Kart Wii, did it diminish their quality?

Why do you care? The Conduit will probably do ok and looks like it's going to get a sequal anyway.  Despite it being considered casual the original Wii Sports is still held in higher critical regard than The Conduit, by what measure does it deserve to sell more than Wii Sports Resort?

No, but no one is being forced to buy WSR for the motion plus,  there are other options.

I don't understand this point.  The Wii has seen some of the best iterations of Nintendo's core franchises that we have seen in years and they have been released at a faster rate than in the previous gen.  What evidence is there that the Wii series games are having an adverse effect on the number or the quality of these releases?

I want all of those games too but am quite happy for Nintendo to make games that i'm not interested in because i am happy to accept that other people's tastes are different from my own.

Well to answer your first question. I said probubly in the garbage. I never kept WiiSports with my other Wii games I kept it with the Wii's box. I recently cleaned my apartment and threw alot of stuff out. Now I can't find WiiSports so I'm betting I accidently threw it out, doesn't matter to me because I never played it anymore anyways (Not that I played it much to begin with)

As for the quality diminishing, Mii based games have poor graphics and their are increasingly more an more of them. The quality of Nintendo's first party games are diminishing. On the GameCube Nintendo released at least one solid first party title a month (Last two years of GCN) today we get a couple solid first party titles instead of the dozen.

As for wanting the Conduit to outsell WSR, I would love to see a high quality third party title beat out a cheaply made tech demo.

In the end WSR was only made to show us what WM+ can do and to show developers. It is a glorified tech demo just like all the other Wii based titles!

@Joelcool7
We are closing in on three years on the market and how many Mii based games released by Nintendo are there exactly? If Nintendo had released Wii Sports and no other Mii based games they would have been seen as the biggest idiots in the industry.

I don't know which GC you owned but i remember no where near 1 first party release per month, particulary later in the GC's life. People on this site have done firsts party comparisons for the Wii and GC and in the same time-frame the Wii is ahead.

Quality-wise i still question the validity of placing The Conduit above Wii Sports and i think you are underestimating the amount of development that the Wii series games take. WSR didn't just fall together in 6 months under the supervision of 2 junior programmer and their 15 year old keyboard playing buddy.

Once again, i will argue that even if you choose to categorise the game as a tech demo it's still objectively better than alot of full games out there and given that it's purpose is to show the potential of WM+, perhaps this is the reason that people are excited about it.  We know that WM+ works very well thanks to Tiger Woods but people are eager to see first hand the other potential applications for WM+.  People get their panties in a bunch over videos of God Of War 3, why not for a game that shows them future gaming possibilities in a tangible manner and that is fun to boot.

Actually, no.
I also feel this way.

Wii Sports was fun for a while, but it was a tech demo, to show the power of motion controls.
Wii Sports Resort is the same way.
Wii Play was only fun for tanks.
Wii Music bored me to tears, coming from someone that actually played it.
The entire Wii series seems like a college project.

I will not be picking up WSR, and I do not get a whole lot of entertainment from these games.
Of course, this is all just my opinion, so feel free to disagree.

I own all of lastgen systems as of October 2008. (Finally got a Dreamcast)

I own every currentgen system except PS3.

tetris was a tech demo because the only thing you can do is play tetris, wii sports is a tech demo because "hardcore gamers" don't find a complete game, yet millions of people do.

are you really arguing against Wii sports being a tech Demo???....it has nothing to do with hardcore, only a very blind fanboy would say it isnt a tech demo..it may be the funnest most polished game ever but its still a tech demo dressed as a game

You don't seem to be alone but I don't agree..

To say you want a high quality third party game like The Conduit to beat a cheaply made tech demo is perfectly fine but The Conduit is really THAT high quality and Wii Sports Resort is far from a cheaply made tech demo. They both had a year a a half of development time, one by a self funded third party with a team of around 30 and one by one of Nintendo's in house development teams, EAD 2, with Nintendo backing it as the biggest title of the generation so far. It has a total of 12 sports, each with 3 activities, which means a 36 game roster.

Besides that, I bought Twilight Pincess alongside my purchase of the Wii at launch and loved it. I also loved Wii Sports and sunk in as many hours then. The difference is I still play Wii Sports occasionally and it has amassed a far greater amount of hours since the launch of the system. A title that I've gotten more play time out of than a game from one of my favourite gaming franchises is getting a sequel. One which I've had far more fun with with friends than many other games. One that can convince my girlfriend to buy a Wii and is playing through Super Paper Mario. The only game that was truly made for the Wii Remote and it's sequel is out soon. I'm excited.

I already have 2 WM+ units and Grand Slam Tennis. I'm not wanting the game for a WM+, I want the game for the game and I can't wait.

a tech demo dressed as a game, thats exactly what i wanted to say but coudn't word it. anyways it doesn't matter what we say, wii sports will go down in history as the best selling game ever, be it a tech demo or not.

You're not alone, I also think Wii sports is a tech demo.

I still do have my copy.

Yeah I wish Core games, even bad ones like the Conduit sell more than Wii Sports Resort, Wii Fit, Wii Music, and anything Wii.

I'm probably Buyin the Red Steel bundle too if i ever have the need for WM+.

Yeah, i think those those games are garbage, but nintendo is makin money off them, so they might as well keep making money.

I want a new F-Zero, Donkey Kong game. Thank god we're also getting a new metroid game, and 2 mario games for wii.

OK, seriously, play the game. Not that it might change your mind or anything...

You are right.. I've already given my reasons but I think Wii Sports Resort should and will FAIL!

(Wii Sports Resort is Day 1 for me though..)
