This is posted on the Xbox board so that hopefully it won't be seen as flaming any fan of the PS3 fans. Of course with the way this site works its impossble not to anger such fans, so I am sorry.
I really got to thinking, all you hear sometimes is 360 had a year head start, 360 had a year head start, 360 had a year head start.
Know what else had a year head start over its competition? The Dreamcast.
We see how that worked out.
Sorry if that was a stupid reason to create a post. I'm just tired of hearing that the only reason the 360 is successful is because it beat the PS3 to the market. And despite similar P.R. tactics used by Sony against the Dreamcast "Our system is much more powerfull, so its worth the wait" The 360 still managed a pretty decisive lead at this point in the game.
So the question would be, what made the difference between the Dreamcast and the Xbox 360? Why did one die horribly despite its large amounts of fanboy love and why did the other system find very good success?

Well there are many differences. One is sega always had internal conflict with all three of their branches(us pulls one way,jp pulls another and europe does their own thing) and that would explain alot of the money loss if you ask me.Two they were basicly fighting a one man war, making most of their games, with only a few of the top developers actually making games that had a decent budget.(like capcom, snk, and so on)Three in their gaming line up were alot of ps1 ports making the dreamcast look quite bad.
Even with limited amount of money sega would cook up arcade boards like every year.(hikaru and expensive custom arcade board, naomi 2 basicly a dreamcast times 2,pretty much on the lvl or a little higher of the ps2 polygon pushing wise)Also bad decisions like lets 70 million dollar series like Shenmue.(I think there was an article stating that they had to sell shemue 2 twice per console holder to break even)All and all I think the main difference is funds. The dreamcast could have continued if they had as much money as Microsoft.
Lets not forget how sony lied that the ps2 was basicly a cg machine(75 million triangles anyone?)Basicly was hype.I dont think they money hatted as much as ppl think,I just think the install might have been pretty high even when the gamecube and xbox came,so it made sense to make games ps2 exclusive.
