Forums - Nintendo - Will Dragon Quest X(Wii) beat Dragon Quest IX(DS) in sales?

All signs point to no.

But seriously, no, I don't think so. It's possible, but I wouldn't say it's likely.

You also forget install bases.

PSP in Japan = 1.5* Wii
DS in Japan > 3* Wii

Not to mention, the Japanese prefer to buy handheld games.

I wasn't really getting at any sort of "it sells better on handhelds" type of thing, the mere obstacle of requiring triple the attach ratio (by present numbers, obviously) will be (going by present numbers) nearly impossible for DQX, and realistically speaking, I just can't see the situation changing that drastically come 2010 or 2011 or whenever DQX comes out.

Granted, Monster Hunter has a better chance than DQX of outselling handheld prequels, however, I just just can't see an attach ratio of >35% for the game. And if Monster Hunter isn't hitting 35% attach ratio, then Dragon Quest probably isn't hitting 60% either.

They'll likely be close in sales, but I go with the DS on top, due to the price of the game and the fact that it's all portable.

Achievement is its own reward, pride only obscures.

HATING OPHELIA- Coming soon from Markosia Comics!

It's entirely possible if Nintendo is serious about pushing DQ on their platform. It's not so much about userbase as it is about how many people than can hook in besides the usual suspects.

Dragon Quest is a huge series probably bigger than the Final Fantasy series in Japan.  Now Dragon Quest IX just release in Japan and will probably sell like 3 million copies 1st day/week and 15 million LTD. But since the DS has a huge underbase in Japan and probably is like 1 DS per person  instead of 1 console per household like Wii. The Wii in Japan is really popular too and I think it will be bundled with a colored Wii just like Monster Hunter 3. So do you think DQX will sell more than DQIX?

15 million? Even with 3 million 1st week it won't get past 10 million, not even if it's first day. DQ and FF are extremely frontloaded series and first week is usually 60-70% of the total sales in Japan. If DQ IX is as frontloaded as previous part, it wouldn't even get past 5 million (DQ VIII had 2.2 million 1st week, 3.7 million finish in Japan) with 3 million first week.

It will probably beat Dragon Quest VIII on PS2, but not DQIX.

for example, if a family is a DQ fan, each will likely get an own copy of DQIX, but they only need to have one Wii in the household. So one copy will be enough

.....hilarious

OT: No It's not possible, MAybe...3-3.5 million in Japan, DQIX will probably hit 4.5-5 million in Japan

^_^

It's on the Wii. It wont accomplish those sales. The DS version always sells better anyway.

LTD = Life to date. LTD sales are ZERO. LTD means sales up to this point in time. Why can't anyone use that term correctly?

There's no way Microsoft's Wii can beat Nintendo's DS.
