I know what you guys are thinking already.  You're asking yourselves, "But Mr. 316... aren't you the guy that said that the Conduit would be huge?  Don't the sales figures from it's first two weeks in existence point toward it being a sucess?"

The answer to question 1 is:  Yes, I was that guy.

The answer to question 2 is: No.  I shall spend most of this thread explaining my answer to question 2.

Below I will give a sales comparison between four FPS games from this generation going by VGChartz official numbers (the only numbers that I go by ):

The Conduit  ( first week 94,469, second week 61,947, approximately 160 K for the first 2 weeks total)

Halo 3  ( first week 3,815,444, second week 782,396, approximately 4.6 million for the first 2 weeks total)

Killzone 2  ( first week 756,245, second week 327,739, approximately 1.2 million for the first 2 weeks total)

Haze  ( first week 152,126, second week 63,340, approximately 220 K for the first 2 weeks total)

Notice that the Conduit has sold the least amount of copies out of these four?  How can it not be considered a flop?  It doesn't matter that the other three games had much, much, much, much, much, much higher budgets.  It just matters that it sold less.  Also, the fact that the Conduit was only released in America and the others were released world wide isn't of any relevance either.  Especially in Haze's case.  Haze might have only sold ( first week 91,781, second week 22,761, approximately 114 K for the first two week total in America, which might be 46 K less than the Conduit, but look at the big picture.  In the entire world it sold 60 K more.)

I made the argument before that the Conduit would be huge because of the celebrity involvement of Kevin Sorbo and Rick Nielsen.  It turns out that I was wrong and that they needed different celebrities.  I'll give some suggestions as to who I think could have been involved in this project.

First off, istead of Rick Nielsen playing guitar on the soundtrack they should have had Steve Miller or Yngwie Malmsteen.  Take your pick.  Steve Miller's Fly "Like An Eagle" and Yngwie Malmsteen's "Rising Force" sound so similar that you'd think that you were listening to the same album if you didn't know any better.  Look into it if you don't believe me.  Either would have been a better choice.

Next off, I was looking into Kevin Sorbo's acting history and it says that he made a guest appearance on four episodes on Dharma and Greg.  This most certainly had to hurt the sales of the Conduit.  High Voltage should have gotten another guy with experience in the fantasy (swords and sorcery) and the science fiction genres if that's what they were looking for.  They should have went with Marc Singer.  He starred in the movie the Beastmaster along with ferrets Kodo and Podo, eagle Sharak, and tiger Ruh.  Everyone loves Kodo and Podo and they could have been brought along with Marc in order to make the Conduit bigger than Halo 3, Killzone 2, and Haze put together.  Mr. Singer also potrayed Mike Donovan on the show V and everyone knows that V is a gajillion times better than Sorbo's show, Andromeda.

Looking into the rest of the voice actors I'd have to say that they could have done better than Mark A. Sheppard as Agent Michael Ford.  His claim to fame is being on some Firefly and Battlestar Galactica episodes I guess.    He sounds like Snake Plisken just swallowed a bunch of weinie pills in the game.  I'm pretty sure that the "real" Snake Plisken, Kurt Russell, probably would have cost too much money, so I suggest that they should have went with Dirk Benedict.  Not only was he Starbuck on the original Battlestar Galactica, but he was Face on the A-Team.  'Nuff said.

Last but not least, W. Morgan Sheppard does the voice of John Adams.  Looking at his acting resume, his two biggest parts are Klingon Commander in Star Trek VI:  The Undiscovered Country and Vulcan Science Minister in the most recent Star Trek movie.  Why was he chosen you ask?  Apparently Mark Sheppard is his son.  Also, he was the narrator in the fist three Medal Of Honor games and he read the poem "Rendezvous", by Alan Seger in a Gears of War 2 commercial.  Possibly his involvement in FPS was important to High Voltage.    I would suggest another actor instead of him.  How about David Warner?  He did voice work in both the games Baldur's Gate II:  Shadows of Amn and Fallout.  If he needs science fiction credentials I will give you some.  He was in two Star Trek movies as well (V and VI), did the voice of Doctor Who in some audio plays, and was the villian Sark in Tron.  Warner gave one of the all time great acting performances when he was Evil in Time Bandits.  That's right, he wasn't some evil guy but he was Evil.  He played Evil to perfection.

So there you go.  The Conduit could have better sales if they had better people involved.

The biggest thing that the Conduit is missing though is a chainsaw.  Putting a chainsaw in the game would have increased it's sales tenfold.  Shooting people just isn't good enough anymore.  Now we have to dice them up into little pieces.

Who knows?  Maybe the Wii just can't sell hardcore games?

It's for teh kiddiez and teh casualz, right?

It makes perfect sense.

fixed.

no, amp is amp. I like him that way.

160,000 copies sold in 2 weeks is good for a game, but compared to other fps it's bad

I regret making this my username, I made this name when I was 13 years old

Life could always get worse, you could be a mod for Neogaf

As stated before, why limit yourself to FPS.  This is the Wii.  It will only be good if it outsells all the mini games.

This game was reviewed poorly, and shove that biased crap back up your ass. It is the height of arrogance for anyone to believe they know more about doing a job then someone who does it for a living, or hell someone who actually puts real effort into what they are doing.

I'm confused. My opinion isn't worth as much because I'm not paid to give my opinion? Or is it that my opinion isn't valid because I didn't put any real effort into forming my opinion? =^/

The gaming media is not biased against the Wii.

That explains everything. If the media was biased against the Wii, there would not be similar criticism for HD games. Look at Perfect Dark Zero its graphics, plot, controls and game duration are all worse than the conduit.  It also had bugs. It got as much hate as The Conduit. Just compare the reviews from Gamepro, Gamespot, 1up, Edge, Eurogamer on both games. They take points away for the same things: plot, graphics, gameplay.

You obviously haven't looked at fps sales past a few games.

what's your definition of a few? 10 games? 15? I can probably name 10 that have had better sales.

Did you look at the comment I replied to? He implied THE MAJORITY of fps has better openings, NOT those 10 or 15.
