All the games are exelent and I highly recommend them, but Prime 2 had many issues that didn't work in it's favour. I had no problem with the light-bubble system, which works better as the game progresses but the needlessly large amount of backtracking brought on by the Light/Dark world system really just felt like a fancy way of padding out the game and really only increased the length in a very cheap way. This was also made more painful by the fact that most of the locals in Prime 2 are quite boring. Sanctuary fortress is amazing but Agon wastes and Torvus bog are very repetitive and sometimes poorly thought out and the bosses of those respective areas are failyunimaginitve, but again Quadraxis in the Sancutary fortess is one of the best boss fights in Metroid history. Really Prime 2 only really comes into it's stride opon entering Sancutary fortress and onwards but preceeding that is certainly a good game, but one with many frustrations and half-baked idea's.
Prime 3 basically corrects all the problems with Prime 2 and builds on the good concepts of the previous games and although its not up to the standards of the first Prime it's still my second-favourite Metroid after the first. The backtracking is easily the most balanced and most well though out in the series. You can make the long arduous journeys around the world to aquire items but only if you want to. Prime 3 is arguably the least linear of the series as backtracking can be done at your own disgression as oppossed to the nightmarishly long trails you are required to treck in Prime 2 and even the first game, which as much as I loved it even I would sometimes open up the world map and find the huge course I would have to take and think 'fuck that!'. Combine ease of experiance with the sublime control sceme and you have my favourite game this gen.
