Fun Facts
I need to share something fun and cheery now. And even though many can't get in, many have and played a lot of games already.

* On Day 1 there were 29.45 years of gameplay completed on Xbox 360
* Over 5 millions kills in the first day!

First WEEK?  It's been out since Wednesday morning...

80k people on the leaderboards on the first day. The 30 years number probably includes not only those 80k people, but everyone who just played the free trial version.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

I'm talking factual data... Besides, he IS talking about its first day, right? 30 years? do you know how much hours is that?

40k first day.  Probably about 60-70k first week if not more.

And it's cumulative.  If every player played for 6 hours, that's 27.8ish years of gameplay so this must mean that of those who bought it, the average first day playtime was over 6 hours

Sounds really over the top...

Why is that?  And that's only counting 40k players.  The article on the front page is an estimate, but the leaderboards already show 80k players on the first day. (those have to have purchased the game, I believe)  At this point there are already 200k players on the leaderboards.

If it is 80k players, then they all just need an average of 3 to 4 hours to reach that.

On launch day things go crazy and people always play longer periods so even 6 hours or more seems reasonable.

In a very rough calculation (365x24x30 : 4 ) you'd need 65700.

Plausible, I guess, hehe. Still, if you caount play time in YEARS it sounds over the top, right?

I wonder what it would have been had the servers worked properly?

Thanks for the input, Jeff.
