The Gamecube and N64 were both consoles that had a lot of potential at launch, yet in many people's minds failed to generate that much interest and so they are thought of as console failures on the part of Nintendo. Then along came the Wii and in its early years, as far as sales go, it was doing better than any console that Nintendo had released since the SNES and many people were even labeling it the second coming of the NES and making staggering claims about how the console was going to perform better than any other gaming console ever has. And, it did reach 50 million consoles sold faster than any other console ever did.
However, there are signs according to some folks that the Wii is beginning to slow down in its sales. I don't have sales data in front of me at the moment, but don't think that either the Gamecube or N64 sold more than 30 million copies in their respective gens.
What do you think the odds are that in the second half of this gen (which I believe began when Wii hit the 50 million sold mark), that the Wii won't sell any more units than the N64 and Gamecube did in their respective gens?
