It's not a racing sim. It is fun tho...

But it says racing game not racing sim in the title and your original post never mentioned "racing sim" either. I don't see why MK Wii can't be definitive racing game of this gen.

because mario kart wii has major flaws. The game plays itself, the winner appears to be randomly generated, the controls are wonky, WM+ might fix this, the tracks are dull, the variation is unimaginative and it does nothing to be a definitive racing game. It is the Definitive party racing game though. However, Mod Nation Racers seems to of done everything mario kart wii did, better, and with more content..

I seriously don't know how people can call a game does everything better with just a few minutes demo. This reminds me that someone calling The Last Guardian the best game of all time after only watching the trailer footage. Actually this is the problem with GT5 too. It's only judged by the trailer and the features on paper.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

No, not really, not at all, subjective (and I'd say the colourful and varied tracks of MK Wii >>> all the realistic crap Forza and GT have), and again, subjective.

How about this:  it's the definitive racing game because it's accessible enough to reach an extremely broad range of players, deep enough to satisfy core fans, and ultimately satisfying enough to probably sell more than both Forza 3 and GT5 combined.

Before I start I'd just like to say that I loved Forza 2 and that Forza 3 is going to be great. I'd also like to say that Turn 10 and Microsoft have brought this on themselves with their big mouths. You can't go making ridiculous claims without having substance to back it up. I'l do a simple list to show how from a standpoint of features, Forza aint the one that's 'definitive.'

GT5 VS FORZA 3

More Cars vs Less Cars

More Tracks vs Less Tracks

1080p vs 720p

60fps vs 60fps

World Rally vs No Rally

Weather System vs No Weather System

Night Racing vs No night racing

Top Gear Test Track vs No Top Gear Test Track (This is important to some UK folks)

Nascar (although prolly only 16 cars) vs No Nascar

Can be used with alot of steering wheels vs Can be used with a few steering wheels

16 cars on track vs 8 cars on track

Little car exterior customization vs Full exterior customization

Almost CGI graphics (the trailer was 'real') vs Amazing graphics

No/Little tyre deformation vs Tyre deformation

Probably little damage vs Full Damage and Car rolls

..........Doesn't look all that 'definitive' to me.

1. How do you know GT5 will have more than 100 tracks? Source please.

2. "Almost CGI graphics (the trailer was 'real') vs Amazing graphics" - Huge LOL @ believing in a pre-rendered trailer (or graphics running in 10 frames per seconde then speed up whatever technique was used for some parts). The truth is that Forza 3 beats GT5p in grafix, GT5 grafix we have no proof yet.

3. "Probably little damage (GT5) vs Full Damage and Car rolls (Forza 3)"  - Damage is almost everything, very important. Yes, I am afraid too that GT5 will only have 'damage light', which in my book definately don't qualify as the 'definitive' racing game.

Winner so far is Forza 3.

I think they both need to be released and played before any claims of definitive are slapped on either game.

Well how utterly unpredictable this thread is!

Neither is definitive until both are out and we have proper comparisions-Forza fanboys will pick Forza 3, and GT fanboys will pick GT5.

Also this gen is far from over and another developer could make a better racing game than both and be the actually definitive racing game (Unlikely but could happen)

My god, a PS3 owner thinks GT5 is superior to Forza 3. Imagine that.

Seriously, though, I don't think anyone can judge which one is the definitive racing game of this gen until they're both released.

Agreed, we will just have to wait and see.

because mario kart wii has very minor flaws. The game plays itself is addicting, the winner appears to be vast majority skilled-chosen, the controls are flawless, WM+ isn't needed, the tracks are the best in the game's series, the variation is imaginative and it is a racing game. It is the Definitive racing game. However, Mod Nation Racers seems to of done some of mario kart wii did, more dull and less creative.

fixed

Mario Kart is definitely the answer. It's followed by Excite Bots and then Excite Truck.

Man, do I love a good racer.

If I beat you twenty straight times would you say that the winner is not randomly generated?  I could do this if you wanted.

Mod Nation Racers seems to do everything that Mario Kart Wii did better?  Elaborate...
