Forums - Sales - Does anyone still believe in a major turnaround this gen?

First off, there's the sales. As of March 31st, 2009, the PS3 had sold 22.91 million units worldwide, while the Xbox 360 sold 30.2 million units. That's a lead of approximately 7 million. But when the PS3 first launched, the 360 had sold 10 million units (since it had a one year headstart). That means that since the PS3 launch, the 360's lead has shrunk by 3 million units.

PS3 sold 22.9m consoles in 2 years and 3 months
X360 sold 20.2m consoles in 2 years and 3 months

360 is actually the worst selling console this gen, thats why I find it so funny the 360fans always try to bring up sales.

^but you're giving total sales of one console and ignoring one whole years worth of sales on another to prove your point.

If you go on total sales for both the PS3 is the worst selling console this gen thats why I find it so funny the PS3fans always try to bring up sales, but only for a timeframe that they decide.

^but you're giving sales of 3.5 years vs sales of 2.5 years.

Ps3 has sold better than 360 thus far in it's lifetime.

Thats a fanaboy answer.

Moving the goalpost doesn't make your claim the 360 is the worse selling console this gen true because the 360 has sold 31.3mil and the ps3 has sold 22.5mil so looking at the sales the ps3 is the worse selling.

Why is that impossible for you to grasp?

3.5 years against 2.5 years means nothing more than sony was slow out the starting grid.
If sony had the year start would you want to move the goalpost then?

Don't forget that the 360 has been increasing it's lead again so if it continues how will you move the goalpost then?
This aligned launch will mean nothing come christmas if both consoles have a similar holiday as last year?

^actually you do pretty much say that. You said Ps3 needs to start outselling 360 by HUGE amounts, when in reality it just needs to stay on the market 1 year longer than 360, and it probably will considering it came out a year later.

@hellonearth

tell you what, in the interest of fairness if we have to remove the first year of sales of the 360 then it's only fair that the ps3 makes concessions as well.

How about we remove sales from june 2008 to dec 2008 for instance for the ps3.
It's not a whole year and I get to pick with you having to accept it like you expect 360 owners to with your date picking.

How could I not believe in a major turnaround this gen? It happened on August 25, 2007.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

listen hellonearth its good to see members join the site and welcome to the forums, but your way of thinking here is seriously flawed. I understand that a turn around is theoreticlly possible for PS3 to catch the the 360 but at this date and time its very improbably. Sony would have to start shipping ALOT of units. As in start outselling the 360 by over 150,000 units every week without fail for the next 2 years just to close the gap, let alone pull ahead.

Its just not realistic.

Nice try, except the 360 had sold less then 6 million when the PS3 launched.

The ten million was after the second Christmas.

So the gap has widened.

Something like that was posted even in topic, what HoE linked. But of course, HoE never mention that.

BenVTrigger: HoE´s assunption is, that PS3 will be on market much longer, that X360. Problem is, nobody can say, if it´s true, or not. And by that time, it will not probably be important anyway.
