If the PS3 does pass the Xbox 360 in 2012-13 after the next Xbox is released noone will care.

sorry i meant if it doesn't jump then the ps3 will be able to pass it in about 3 years, the 360 will never be able to compete with it if they both have 10 year life cycles or even 7 or 8 years it just has to many franchises. at the same price point, free online,  a blue ray player and the exact same games minus halo there is no reason to buy a 360

Assuming people decide not to jump into the newest gen.

PS3 fans keep saying how the ps3 is the most advanced machine ever and how it's best value for money because of all it's features so if thats what matters then why would people buy a last gen console when they can buy a more powerful, feature packed machine?

The only way the PS3 would then pass the 360 is if the gap isn't too great.
I don't see how releasing a newer console will mean people will still buy older machines (apart from the Wii) in huge numbers?
The PS3 is not the PS2 and doesn't have the same stranglehold on the market to maintain high sales when the next gen starts and MS have worked very hard on brand recognition this gen and succeeded so can carry that over the way Sony did from the PS1.

Providing MS don't include too much new tech that cost a bucket load like Sony did with teh Cell and Blu-ray they could release the console at a reasonable price, maybe similary priced to the most expensive PS3 now, it's means taking a hit on each console sold but thats how this works.

Pfft. $300 PS3 Slim with Gran Turismo 5 this holiday season and its all over........./sarcasm.

Actually that's absolutely correct.

The disappearance of the PS3 from the marketplace due too Sony's bankruptcy would lead to a massive jump in Xbox 360 sales.

you my friend fits the definition of a deluded fanboy

A "IMO" would be nice as  there are 30 million or so people who owns a 360

And only 1/3rd of those own Halo. So 67% people who own an xbox360 do not agree with Fleeman.

because it has all the 3 party games sony would have as exclusives if the ps3 sales weren't so bad

PS3 exclusives are making 360 exclusives look dated and this trend looks to continue. PS3 has sold more in 2.5 years then 360 did plus it plays bluray has free online gaming and doesn't get RROD.

Red is vastly superior to yellow. Anyone who says different is a colorblind fanboy.

yes as you have pointed out, multiplatforming is a standout feature of this gaming generation, but that is not the main reason the 360 is currently outselling the ps3..I think its pretty obvious

After seeing the responses to my post from earlier, let me rephrase myself:

I believe a turnaround between the PS3 and the 360 can happen this gen (I don't say that it WILL happen, I say it is possible), because I think that there are a lot of pepole who wait specifically for a PS3 price drop, and are uninterested in the 360, so when the PS3 will drop the price, there will be a big, temporary, rise in sells, in which the PS3 will sell around 6 mil units in two months, and no, I don't say it WILL happen, I think that it is highly likely.

Also, when looking at the period that the PS3 was the same price as the 360, you can see that the PS3 outsold the 360, so I think it will happen again when they are both the same price.

I understand pepole who think that a turnaround is unlikely, I can't understand pepole who think a turnaround is impossible.

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.
