Dragon Quest IX is getting gargantuan amounts of hype in Japan and could very well sell north of 3 million copies in its first week if tracking is correct.  However Dragon Quest games are very front-loaded, so in long-term sales, I don't see it going farther than 5.5 million in Japan, which is huge, and a series high.

Pokemon has the top four spots for sales of a game in Japan and Gold and Silver were favorites among fans.  Although I seriously doubt it selling more than DQ IX during its first week, Pokemon usually has much longer legs.

My gut is telling me DQ IX because Heart Gold and Soul Silver are remakes but I could be wrong.

Dragon Quest will start strong and possibly win Japan.  Pokemon will win overall.

I think these remakes will have the upper hand this time.

Japanese? I think the new game will beat the remake in sales.

Will be tough, both will sell more than 3 million this year for sure.

Pokemon Heart Gold will win, but it will be sued and will have to give huge royalties and compensations to Neil Young

it would be easy to just say pokemon if your looking at past sales. but the DS has already had three main pokemon games. this will be the 4th and 5th

DQ XI will be the frist and its on the best selling gaming machine... hard to tell.

In just Japan? History would suggest Pokémon, but there have already been quite a few Pokémon games on the DS - I could see DQ having the upper hand. But ultimately, I think Pokémon will win.

One has to remember that its a main game against a remake.

I definately say that DQIX has a huge upper hand in Japan. I see HG/SS LTD sales being just over the first week sales of DQIX.
