Tecmo Moving Towards Downloadable Titles

While Tecmo will be showing off their line-up of premium titles during this year's Tokyo Game Show, the North American division of Tecmo are looking to get into the downloadable space in the near future.

According to the official website for this year's Tokyo Game Show, Tecmo are looking to hook up with developers to work on new and existing projects which will be primarily focused towards Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network.

This could mean that Tecmo are looking to start producing some new byte-size IPs, or reinvigorate some older franchises.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

That looks like the most graphically impressive tower defense game ever. Might have to check it out.

Normally I'm not a big fan of flight sims, but that Snoopy game looks like it might be a lot of fun.

GamerBytes: EarthWorm Jim HD Developed From The Ground Up, Includes Special Edition Features

Gameloft revealed their plans to bring EarthWorm Jim back to the digital distribution services last month. To know more about the remake of EarthWorm Jim we contacted and spoke to a Gameloft representative and asked them a couple of questions.

We can reveal that EarthWorm Jim will be based on the Sega Genesis version of the game, but is being reworked completely from scratch without the original game's code. The game will be enhanced from the original game, featuring better graphics, smoother animations and will feature several difficulty levels - something not in the original.

While there are no screenshots of the console version of the game, there are a few iPhone screenshots floating around. The above image showcases the difference between the original and the iPhone remake, so we can hopefully expect that much care and dedication to the original game to flow through the rest of the remake.

Gameloft are also aware of the chronology of Earthworm Jim. The Special Edition, released on the Sega CD and PC, had an additional level called "Big Bruty". We can now confirm that the game will include this level.

The game will use leaderboards to track killed enemies, total time, and several other statistics. They also stated there will be "some surprises, which will be revealed later".

Joe Danger:

Our first game is Joe Danger aimed at XBLA/PSN/PC just as soon as it feels right, let’s say Spring next year.

You are Joe Danger, the world’s most determined stuntman. You live to thrill the crowd and break World Records. Take on your friends or race against your rivals – the reckless “Team Nasty”. You laugh in the face of danger, and it laughs back, as you bounce from boulder to boulder, on fire, towards that pile of mousetraps. Freeze the game at any point and edit your level however you want it. Once you are finished, share the joy.

Joe Danger aims to recreate the childish joy of the first time you took a toy motorbike, doused it in lighter fluid, lit it, and launched it at high speed over your carefully constructed ramp out a second story window, while all the kids in the neighbourhood cheered below.
