Forums - Sales - WIll DQIX Outsell PS3's Install Base in Japan WEEK 1??!!

I had been assuming the retailer I used had 30% less market share than it did when Andriasang reported the 2.0m preorder figure, in line with other Dragon Quest performances on DS, but the 2m figure does work if the game is at the next "notch" up (meaning if the store has less market share for DQIX than it did for DQV), for titles with more mass appeal on DS like Tomadatchi DS which is at the exact same market share.

New DQ is probably much bigger than the remakes at "normal" retailers in Japan, so I think the 2m figure is not only possible but realistic. I don't think Square-Enix will ship fewer than 3.0 million copies week one just to be safe.

Its not the PS3's fault that only 3 million people in Japan wanted it.

TheSource, are we sure the pre-order numbers reported are from actual customers pre-orders or are retailers pre-orders? I remember Sony saying they had one million GT5P pre-orders in just Europe.

Japan is retailers.

Also, @the Source, did you consider the new red dsi that is releasing in the 175k numbers for the week? Putting both together will raise the sales higher than that imo.

Stop it. I was just getting over our loss.

Japan is games.

DQ8 sold over 4.5 in in a blink of a eye,

it possible but not one day maybe one week.

DQ8 didn't sell 3.7 million in Japan, let alone 4.5 million.

double your employee costs. They may have an average salary of 60k, but you didn't add benefits and other overhead costs. So probably closer to $20m if it was truly 50 people over 3.5 years.

@slightly off topic

the thread title right here is why they shouldn't have made FFXIII for PS3. FF does exceptionally well, but the PS3 install base is actually limiting potential sales. Maybe it will cause a huge boost in PS3 hardware, but if it doesn't you are pretty much guaranteed that it cost them a lot of sales.

Th problem with your argument is just FFXIII will sell more than DQIX since its only popular in JAPAN. Square dealt with that problem by making  the game multiplat in more popular markets.

DQ is more popular than FF in Japan.

@Edit: Sorry, I read wrong.

What I'm more interested to see is if dq gets some extra legs since its being released on a handheld system. That will be interesting to watch.
