Forums - Nintendo - Dave Halverson gives The Conduit an 8.5.

Play Magazine's review of The Conduit and Dave Halverson gives the game an 8.5.  He says, "The seminal Wii FPA has arrived, loaded with top-fuel Wii tech, consistent, persistent, decidedly well-designed and executed gameplay, an excellent soundtrack, and enough originality to separate it from the first-person pack."

Wait, everyone told me the soundtrack sucks.......

I'll read the review then edit in my response.

EDIT: I think it is good to know that Dave went into reviewing The Conduit without pre-hype bias. He hasn't seen it since its alpha stage nor looked at news about it, so the game became a fresh experience. He doesn't mention the online too much, but he acknowledges that resources were put into that more than single player.   Another thing that is noticeable is his idea that the play is methodical rather than straight run n gun, which is contrary to what I have heard from several people.

The review was OK. Hope it reaches metacritic to help out that average.

That was a nice review. He judged the game on its own merits and didn't penalize it from the start for being on hardware no as powerful as the the HD Twins or for not having a gimmick. If only more reviewers had this approach.

Guess I shouldn't be surprised given E.Storm and I have had similar tastes in games since way back in the day.

I read the review and he also said the music was good, despite what others have told me.

He also disregards the "generic" part of The Conduit which in turn benefitted his review greatly.

" The first thing I want to dive into is this notion of The Conduit being ‘generic’. What isn’t generic these days? You can boil down games like Killzone 2 and Halo 3 to the following: save someone/something from aliens. Many games fall into that category; The Conduit is one. Does it make it generic? Sure, if that’s the criteria you’ll use to label games with the same basic premise. Does it take away anything from the game? Not at all!"

I guess to him, the game did everything it should have. He also had limited time with the online like Dave Halverson, but was favorable towards it as well.  It seemed like a more personal review, pretty good. Even if he gave it a C, I  would still agree with what he wrote, but an S is great too.

Play magazine is the best gaming magazine, confirmed

Grade S is more favourable than Grade A so I beleive.  I think many people have said The conduit was too generic, kill that move onto the next one kill that, pick up ammo health ect.

That is the thing, even in the greatest First Person Shooters, you do nothing different.

That is like criticizing a platformer for jumping and collecting items or a flight game without ground segments. You'd figure it comes with the territory.

They gave Lair 9.0, they are credible.

Irregardless, their 9.0 review was added to metacritic for Overlord II recently, so this 8.5 should do the same.
