Forums - Sony - What is the PS3's Halo or Mario?

They never really focused on pushing one specific franchise so there is none... but I guess in Sales GT is the closest thing.

Sony has franchise A.D.D.

Sony doesn't have a mascot, it has an entourage of mascots from their all their great franchises, people just choose to ignore them because to them, a mascot has to be an iconic character who is milked to the shit house because if they aren't they cease to exist as a mascot, catch 22.

If a company can just have their strength in the brand name and have no need of a mascot, then their free to end and start franchises as they see fit with out any penalties, this I find is the best way.

So, you're calling zelda milked out franchise? Or Mario? It's not because they make a lot of games with Mario in, that it's milked out. Most main mario games have better quality then any HD game ever created, even the spin off mario games are pretty good. Pokemon is Nintendo's most milked out franchise by far, but most people don't see pokemon as Nintendo's mascot because it's second party anyway and they never made a real pkmn game on a console.

the only series i could say that has been comparable is GT.

I love how these kind of threads become a haven for unnecessary negativity. WHO CARES what company has the "most" recognizable character or which is better IYO? Why not just enjoy all the games and characters?

Questions I'm sure won't get answered, but oh well.

Mascots provide great sales for popular culture characters. They are also console sellers. Sony has never had a serious Iconic character outside of Snake, whom is third party and single handedly saved the PS3's ass in 2008 and he has and will be a multiplatform title again. Look what it did for Sega, Nintendo and Microsoft. Sony's highest selling game is a car game. There is not a shred of humanity when you think about it. Nintendo are geniuses at creating mascots that attract children and these children grow up with these characters and play games with their kids. Halo is a Alien kill-joy fest that represents the American military culture that we've become (which is also culturally why we sell the most FPS games). Sony is everywhere with no mascot identity. Sonic was a great character that children loved and I grew up with. "Gotta love them chilli dog's"-Sonic
