you should be able to run it on low.. but a better processor would help, the processor to video card balance isnt good.

 BTW - UT3 is DX9c.

Really? I always thought it was D3D10 for some reason... good to know :P

@Sqrl the recommended specs you posted for Crysis will give you crap graphics, the same with the UT3 ones. You need atleast an 8800GTX and 3gb of gaming ram, to get anything decent out of Crysis.

In the recent interview the epic guy said they were playing Gears on a 8800 card to have 1900x1200 with good graphics and 55-60 FPS, UT3 will need something similar to have any fun with it.

Wow, alot lower than I expected. I figured since I would only be able to play crisis on low settings, I probably wouldn't bother with UT3 just yet, but it looks like my ol' girl should be just fine to play it.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

I don´t belive those specs eather, my PC meets the recomended specs for U3 engine games like Rainbow Six: Vegas but in bigger campain levels even at min. settings it turnes into a slideshow.

Well but at 1024x768 it would need much less now wouldn't it? (I hope so!!!)

Ok first of all, I have been playing PC games for a very long time.  I know precisely what to expect from required and recommended specs. And your assertions here are really far off.

Secondly,  you're wrong about what specs you need for good performance from Crysis.  There have been plenty of reports from folks in the beta who have stated great performance at very high resolutions and settings with the recommended specs. For instance 1280x720 with full settings is quite doable with a 7800GTX provided similar hardware accompanies it.  I would consider 720p with full settings to be "decent", not sure about you though.

I haven't heard anything about UT3 performance yet though. The required specs might not get you the full package but thats to be expected with any game, however the recommended specs will almost certainly get you something very playable and probably something that looks pretty good as well.

Something I think you are missing is that as far as I know both crysis and UT3 are including motion blur.  This means you don't need 60FPS for the game to look good.  The reason 60FPS was required before is that it looked choppy to the eye because in reality there is a percieved blur as you or the observed object is in motion.  With that added in, FPS of as low as 30-40 will still look very sharp.  Either way I don't think you are going to need a crazy $2k system just to play either of these games at respectable settings even if you want to have 60FPS.

Either way I don't just barely meet recommended specs, I am quite a bit beyond them.  So I will be playing the games at very high settings and very high resolutions with little or no difficulty.

But I have to ask, do you honestly think that people will require one of the best video cards and triple the recommended RAM to get playable settings for UT3?  Cause if you do I think you might be pleasantly surprised to learn that you are talking about specs to play at max everything which is well beyond playable and well beyond enjoyable.

To Each Man, Responsibility

My processor is 2.3ghz (oc'd from 2.0) and I have a 7800GTX....how well will the game play if you have the 'recommended' hardware? Halfway between low and high settings?

-and, is this game ACTUALLY MULTITHREADED?

A lot of people think they need all max settings to enjoy a game.

All medium settings often puts you on par with consoles, so I don't see the big deal.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )
